VIiruses, Terrorism, and Beliefs

May 31st, 2007

I have been swamped, deluged and inundated with people’s thoughts telling me they are frightened by the possibility of terrorist attacks. They are scared of airmail toxins, viruses and nuclear explosions ruining their health and jeopardizing their lives. I am telling you people I don’t do illnesses, only social diseases. My only answer to you is to have Faith. We will overcome adversity.

Speaking of social diseases, there is one that is causing quite a stir. On this I am definitely a non- expert expert. It is called the Ostrich Virus. It isn’t airborne, but this insidious social disease leap frogs from credit card to credit card, leaving their wealthy owners trembling in fear of losing their material possessions. If you want the cure stop worrying so much about your assets.

Are you in fear of losing your possessions? If so, you are just causing the virus to spread. Do you judge your accomplishments solely in monetary terms? Come alive my friends, having Faith will give you all the credit you need. There, don’t you feel more secure now? Doesn’t having Faith make you feel prosperous? You will if you just believe in God. Don’t you want to acquire a bunch of faith-based assets?

This is an excerpt from my book The Magic of Faith. To preview it just go to http://www.faith123.com

How to Deal with the Price of Gasoline

May 31st, 2007

On any given day, the weather trend is usually the first subject of conversation. During the past month, anywhere you go in the United States, the price of gasoline has become a primary topic to complain about. Most people, and businesses, feel helpless when looking toward winter’s fuel bills.

Will dispensing oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve help us? If you think short-term – Yes; it will help temporarily.

In fact, you can expect to see products and services increase in price due to the price of fuel and transportation. This is only the beginning of economic change. Many of the “Mom and Pop” businesses may not be able to adapt fast enough to handle the upcoming heating bills. Many of the local businesses, in my area, are still “smarting” from last winter’s fuel bills.

So what can we do? There has been a flood of Emails that tell us to boycott a particular oil company, but nobody can agree on exactly which company to boycott. Most oil companies are considered “greedy corporate giants,” with questionable political agendas, by the consumers. If we are going to be driven out of business, and into an economic disaster, it is time to declare economic warfare on the largest oil companies.

Sorry to choose such strong words and opinions, but this has gone on long enough. Osama Bin Laden may not feel that you are paying enough at the pump, but you don’t have his millions to pay your fuel bills with.

There is also an effort to stop buying gasoline on a particular day. Every business deals with ups and downs, but you have to come back to the pump; a day of poor sales isn’t going to matter to multi-millionaires. However, a month, or a season, will wake them up.

If we made a serious commitment to walk or bike more, we would all be healthier, and send a message to the oil companies. Granted, many of us commute great distances to get to work, but taking the car around the block to pick up a half-gallon of milk is ridiculous.

A little self-discipline goes a long way. Get rid of all gas guzzlers and don’t even think of buying one. Does anyone really need a 5.7 liter hemi? What are the auto manufacturers thinking? This is total gluttony, and we all know that the world’s oil reserves will run out, so let’s conserve what we have.

In your home, or business, you should insulate everything possible. Many people, and businesses, already have done this, but heat is becoming too precious a commodity to take for granted.

Write your local legislators about alternative fuel sources. Let them know this is an important election issue. They have all sat on their rear ends long enough. Foreign oil dependence has become our foreign policy; it’s time to become self sufficient.

The oil companies are currently engaged in price gouging, but we are not helpless. If we conserve, and get some action from government, it will be for the common good.

JUDGE ROBERST ENLIGHTENS THE COMMITTEE

May 30th, 2007

JUDGE ROBERST ENLIGHTENS THE COMMITTEE

The newly appointed Chief of the US Supreme Court is known for
his bright intellect, his profound knowledge of the law and his
capacity for providing extensive correlations and references to
any subject discussed. We overheard the following conversation
at the latest ping pong tournament at the Justice Department

“Judge Roberts, we have covered a great deal of ground during
the sessions leading to your final appointment as Chief Justice.
I would like to ask you a simple question and expect a simple
answer. We appreciate the weight and careful structure of your
replies that at times go beyond what is needed. My question is:
Can the Supreme Court incorporate itself and sell its shares in
Wall Street?”

“Your question suggests a serious analysis of its contents in
line with the established precedents reflected in Section 5,
article 23 of the corresponding regulatory amendment, which in
any case also answers to the requirements “pro-bono” and “in
tempore”, without ignoring “ego me bene habeo” as expressed by
the Judge Adjunct to the District Court in a case of similar
intention, but not exceeding the limits of judicial stress or
any unknown denomination that can interact upon the notions
presented but not yet integrated into the corresponding brief,
this of course as long as a simple legal instrument such as a
petition or a contentious writ of assimilation can be introduced
prior to further evaluation and assessment of the matter in
question, but keeping in mind that ….”

“Thank you Judge Roberts!”

Think Before You Purchase Domain Names

May 30th, 2007

Here we will try to give you some tips that may be help you to purchase domain names you need.

Purchase domain names in the extension that is as much relative to your business organizational model as possible. For example, .ca means your business is based in Canada and .de clearly explains your German location. However, there are global domains, such as .com or .net.

Be careful when choosing a domain name registration service provider. Some of them are scammers and after you tell them the name you want to register, they do it themselves and then make you buy it from them. They may also charge you for more money than you though from the initial offer. Do some research - scammers are usually mentioned at least once on the Internet. Telephone support availability is a good sign your domain name registration service provider is a serious business and it is simply comfortable to settle up problems instantly by placing a call. Besides that, look for accreditations, for example from ICANN. Serious companies try to gain as much accreditations as possible so that it improves their image and guarantees their security. If a domain registration service doesn’t have any accreditations, it shouldn’t be considered to be a scam or alike, but it is a warning sign.

Try using keywords when choosing your domain name. Some search engines, like Google for example, do take keywords in the domain name into account so this may help you rank a little bit higher in search results. However, choose the shortest name possible so that it is easy to spell and remember.

Make sure you purchase domain names that are not potentially dangerous to be sued for. Avoid trademarks infringement and don’t try to squat someone’s domains. This is simply not fair and may cause problems.

If the domain name you want is available in several extensions, we recommend you to consider buying as much of them as possible so that no one can take advantage of your success.

Let’s imagine you’ve found a company you like. Hit Google to search for example for “domain registration” or “domain names purchase”. If you find information about the company your chose in the first several pages of results, it means the company has been operating in domain registration business for quite a long period of time. If you can’t find any traces of the company in search results and/or observe it only in AdWords, for instance, this is just another reason to check everything once again.

Therefore, when you purchase domain names, remember to go through careful planning and research. Choose the companies you trust not only because you want to. Register domain names that will appeal to your visitors and won’t infringe someone’s rights.

Smart Cardio That Works

May 30th, 2007

Even if you’ve got the greatest abdominal workout in the world, it’s not going to slim your waist unless you also burn off the fat. Trust me…there are many of people out there who have great muscular tone and balance in the mid-section, but don’t even know it because those nice abs are covered in a layer of fat. Remember, a combination of three factors is necessary for a slim waistline: a good abdominal workout, smart cardiovascualr exercise, and proper nutrition. In this article, I’m going to explain how to choose the proper cardio workout structure for burning the most amount of calories and burning the proper ratio of carbohydrates and fat.

When it comes to cardio, the question I probably receive most is: long and slow or short and fast? This question actually reflects the most important concept behind a good cardio routine. The truth is, it depends. Let’s begin by looking at total amount of calories burnt.

Say I ask you to travel a mile on foot. I don’t care how you do it – walk, jog, or run. Many exercise professionals will tell you that you’ll burn the same number of calories any way you do it, as long as you’re covering the same distance. This is simply not true. Studies have shown that the faster you cover that distance, the more calories you burn, period. There is a higher metabolic cost to moving quickly than to moving slowly. So you’re going to burn the most calories by pedaling, running, rowing, swimming, or doing any other cardio you do as fast as possible. The added bonus is that the faster you move, the higher your post-exercise metabolism becomes, meaning that you burn more calories throughout the day after your workout than if you had moved at a slower pace.

Here’s the catch – the faster you “move” across that mile, the more you rely on carbohydrates for energy, and the less you rely on fat. Although burning carbohydrates is beneficial, your body should also be learning how to efficiently use fat as an energy source. The “fat-burning” zone varies from person to person, but a good rule is that when breathing becomes labored or the muscles begin to burn, you’ve crossed the threshold to utilizing carbohydrate as a primary energy source. The basic science behind this is that it takes more oxygen to burn 1 calorie from fat than it takes to burn 1 calorie from carbohydrate, so as your body begins to work harder and get lower on oxygen, it turns more to carbohydrate as an energy source.

So here’s the application part. If you are pressed for time in your workout, go short and fast (i.e. 10-20 minutes, at an intensity level of 8-10). You will burn more calories, both in your workout and throughout the rest of the day. Ideally, however, if you have the time, you should also be incorporating long and slow cardio workouts into your routine (i.e. 20-60 minutes, at an intensity level of 6-8), essentially “training” your body to burn fat as a fuel. Often, I have my clients work in both zones by performing their short and hard cardio efforts prior to weight training on their “difficult” days, then performing their slow and long cardio efforts on their “easy” days. The added bonus is that the slow and long cardio efforts allow the body to recover more quickly from the previous day’s difficult efforts, which means better results.

Let’s finish with a sample workout that will keep you in both zones during the same workout. This is an “interval” routine. Here’s how it works:

5 minute graded warm-up, gradually working up to a hard intensity by minute 5

1 minute hard-fast effort (labored breathing)

2 minutes easy-medium effort (conversation possible)

2 minutes hard-fast effort

1 minute easy-medium effort

repeat 1x

3 minutes hard-fast effort

3 minutes easy-medium effort

4 minutes hard-fast effort

4 minutes easy-medium effort

repeat 1x

5 minute cool-down, gradually working down to a very easy effort by minute 5.

If you sign-up to work more extensively with an online trainer at www.pacificfit.net, you can receive a series of workouts that include pre-written cardio intervals similar to the one above, along with a comprehensive resistance training routine and nutritional plan, complete with exercise photos and videos.

Chapter One FSBO the Russ Miles Thriller/Mystery Novel

May 30th, 2007

Chapter One

She reached the phone on its second ring. “This is Tami!” She confidently answered. She knew who she was.

“Honey, guess what? I sold them! I’ve got the job!”
“In Phoenix, Aaron?”
“Yes! It’s beautiful here! Ninety degrees in November. Blue sky. This place is booming. We’ll sell our house, there!”
I don’t want to sell my home! Tami’s mind screamed in silent protest. While she didn’t utter a sound, her reality whirled as her husband continued to talk.

“The company wants me on my job next Wednesday. I’ll be on the plane back, tomorrow. Pick me up, SeaTac at 4:35. I’ll be on Southwest flight 722. I booked before calling you. Don’t try to come inside. Be at the departures terminal, you know, where you dropped me off!”
“But, this is Wednesday! How…”
“Don’t you worry about anything! We’ve got a week, Tami. We can do it. I love you.”

“Aaron, wait! Please don’t hang up. Tell me all about it. Just a moment, I need to get something to write this down… Now, how do you know that we will be able to move there? We’ve got this house. Trevor’s in first grade. We…”

“We agreed before I came here, Tami. Remember?”
“Yes, but…”
“I’ve got to report to Human Resources, now. They’re waiting for me. I’ll get all of the information. We’ll make sense out of it when I get back. You got 4:35 down?”
“Yes, Aaron. But, call me tonight! Okay?”
“I will, if I get a chance. Got all this information on the company I’ve got to read too. They want to see me here at 7:00 AM, before I fly back. I love you.”

“I love you, Aaron! Please promise you’ll call me back tonight!”
“Got to go, now! Bye.”

Dazed, Tami stared at the receiver. She knew he’d be too busy to call. That’s why he didn’t promise. She loved Aaron, but she loved her house, too. All of her friends were envious of it. It was an extension of herself. This was her home. She’d made Aaron buy it even though there was talk of a lay-off at Boeing. She was tired of the small apartment they’d rented since Trevor was born. They’d looked at dozens of houses before they’d found this home, almost ready. The builder had it finished to her buyer’s specifications. He’d even said he admired her good taste. Her home had everything her friends had always wanted.

The emerald carpeting didn’t stain when six-year-old Trevor spilled his food eating in front of the TV. Green was her favorite color. A stay-at-home mom, Tami Tanner spent her days primping in the mirror, supervising the soaps, and charging on the card her orders from the two channels that offered exclusive articles of fine jewelry. She’d never had to work. Aaron didn’t want his wife to work. He’d said so before she’d married him. That was just fine with Tami. But, since Aaron has been laid off, Tami has resented the fact that she has had to curb her spending.
Tami eyes embraced her kitchen, its tile countertops reflecting forest hues of the perfect curtains she’d found. The built-in microwave was the best. Aaron said that she deserved the best—so long as he got his three-car garage. The oversized refrigerator—icemaker in the door—was the envy of her best friend, Heather, who said she’d trade her boyfriend for an icebox like that. Tami’s builder couldn’t order the frig. They were behind on their credit card payments for it and she couldn’t even charge jewelry.
Tami knew she was supposed to be happy Aaron got the job. But, why did it have to be in Phoenix? What about her home here? She decided to call Heather. As she waited for Heather’s voice mail message to conclude, Tami played with the ruby anklet which matched her toenails. Aaron would never have approved her little indulgence.

“Heather? This is Tami. Please call me back. Pick up, if you’re there! Aaron’s got a job. Please, call when you get this message! I’m home. All right? Bye.”

“Wait, Tami! Don’t hang up. I’m on.”
“Heather! Aaron took a job in Phoenix. What am I going to do?”
“You’re going to move. That’s what.”
“I don’t want to move, Heather. I want to stay here! In my house.”
“We don’t always get everything we want, Tami.”
“I know, but…”

“But nothing! Grow up, Tami! Quit playing dumb! It’s me, remember? You’ve a husband and a son to think about. God, you don’t know how good you’ve had it!”

“I know. You’re right, Heather. I really do have it good, don’t I? Do you think you could come over? I’m bored blind. Aaron’s been gone since Sunday night. Could you, please?”
“ My officer 167 Ted Rasmussen will be here for dinner. He likes to eat when he arrives. I haven’t even thawed out the chicken.”
“ Please, Heather!”

“ Alright, Tami! Quit whining! I’ll see you, tonight when Ted’s away. He’ll have two beers with his dinner, want sex, and to take off with his off-duty cop buddies until around midnight. I’ll come after he leaves.”
“Thank you, Heather! I’ll put Trevor to bed by 8:00. I’ll see if I can get a sitter. We can go dancing! Okay?
“No way, Tami! Your husband’s out of town, but my Ted could find out. I’m not risking my relationship just so you can get your jollies teasing some horny hound dogs. I’ll come over and we can just talk. I’m not getting high either! You got that, Tami?”

“Okay! But, come over. We’ll just talk. Okay?”
“I said I’d be there, Tami. See you around 7:30.”

Tami carried the receiver with her up the oak staircase to the second floor—pausing near the top––to admire her beautiful living room with its bayed windows and gas-log fireplace. The custom carved mantle was just like the one in Home Beautiful magazine. It was perfect. Plush emerald carpeting extended from the green slate entry, through the open dining room to the breakfast bar where Trevor had his Super-Hero’s Cereal every morning. The thick Seattle phone directory, atop his stool, made it the perfect height for her six-year-old son. Home from school, Trevor was watching TV, eating lime wiggly, in the family room.

Last night’s dishes and Trevor’s breakfast bowl were in the dishwasher, frozen lasagna in the oven for another hour and ten minutes. Tami had time to bubble bathe. Glass pipe in hand, she could relax, smoke a little dope, and consider how she would tell Trevor the news: ‘Daddy has a new job; we have to move to a new home in Phoenix; you’ll get to go to a new school.’ Immersed in a euphoric high, she indulged the sodden moments her jetted bathtub offered, amid awful thoughts of losing her ideal home, her connection, and her elegant identity.

How to Effectively Use Training Videos

May 30th, 2007

There is a new fad that has been gaining in popularity recently.
This fad is of the use of training videos for various subjects.
The use of training videos has been widely used for various
things such as: in the work place, for dog training, educational
training, work out or exercise training, sports training, and
much more. But in order for these training videos to serve any
kind of purpose, it is important to effectively use them. If you
are one of those people that struggle with this, let this be
your guide on how to effectively use training videos.

Whatever your reasons are for using training videos, there are
some things you should follow. First of all, it is not good to
watch training videos when you are half asleep or tired. If you
do this, you will not pay much attention to it and thus you will
learn nothing. An example: an employer is having all of his
employees watch a safety video before the lunch hour. The
employees are hungry and tired, so they are not paying much
attention. The solution: the employer should show the video when
the employees are fed and more awake. Also, if you or others
find it hard to pay attention and start to lose focus, get up
and take a breather before continuing with the training video.

Next, if the training video is teaching you how to do something
or how to use something, then practice it while you watch the
video. You can then pause and rewind as necessary. An example
can be if you are learning how to better your golf swing.
Practice as you are watching. Have your golf clubs right there
with you. Another example is if you are watching training videos
on how to train your dog. If the training video shows you how to
make your dog sit, then try this as you watch the video. It is
much easier to practice what you are taught if you do it while
you are being taught. Lastly, take notes if you are unable to
rewind or re-watch the training videos. This way you will have
something to refer back to about what you were just taught.

Remember to keep all of these tips in mind in order to
effectively use training videos. Always know that you are doing
yourself no good if you are not paying any attention to the
training videos. Be aware that if you don’t practice what you
are seeing on the training video, it will not set in and you may
not learn anything. With the right frame of mind, you should be
able to gain more knowledge from the training videos you watch.

Advanced Backgammon Strategies - Using the Doubling Cube

May 30th, 2007

Although, the Doubling Cube is unknown to most of the backgammon casual players, it is an essential tool in advanced backgammon strategies and in money matches and tournaments.

This cube is designated for raising the stakes of the match and its introduction to the backgammon world is one of the main reasons for the rise of popularity of backgammon.

The cube has 6 faces and the numbers written on it- 2, 4, 8,16,32,64.

At the beginning of the match, the doubling cube is placed beside the board or on the Bar between the players.

Any player, who feels at any stage of the match, that he is leading sufficiently in the match, before throwing his dice, may suggest to double the stakes by placing the doubling cube with the number 2 facing up.

For example player A decided to raise the stakes.

Player B, his opponent, the player the offer is given to, after reviewing his situation, has two options:

He may refuse the offer and thus lose the game and one unit.

He may agree to double the stakes, and in this case the match continues with higher stakes.

Player B, who agreed to the offer, is now the owner of the doubling cube, meaning only him (player B) has the option to double the stakes again at any stage of the game.

If player B decides to do so, he has to do it on his turn before throwing his dice.

Now he takes the dice and places it so that the number 4 is facing up.

Player A, has now the same two options, only this time if he declines the offer he will lose two units, and if he agrees the stakes will rise to 4 times the original and the doubling cube returns to his control.

The cube can pass from player to player, each time raising the stakes.

The Crawford rule-

If you are playing a game until N- points, and your opponent is leading and reaches N-1 points, meaning he is short one point from winning the game, you are not allowed to use the Doubling cube in the following game, however, you can use the dice in the following matches if the game continues.

The reason is the weaker player will always want to raise the stakes because he has nothing to lose anymore and we want keep the use of the dice in fairness of both sides.

The Jacoby rule-

This rule is used in money games and never in match games. It decides that a backgammon or gammon may not be scored as such only if the cube has been passed and accepted. The reason behind this rule is speeding up.

The Holland rule-

The Holland rule is used in match games and decides that in post-Crawford games, the trailer can only double after both sides have played two rolls. The rule makes the free drop more valuable to the leading player but generally just confuses the issue.

Unlike the Crawford rule, this rule isn’t popular, and is rarely used today.

The beavers, raccoons, otters and any other animals in the backgammon game-

These animals appear only, if wanted by both sides, in money games and never in match games.

If player A, doubles the stakes, and player B believes A is wrong and he (player B) has the advantage, B can double the stakes and keep the doubling cube on his side. For example, if A makes the initial double and puts the doubling cube on 2, B can say “Beaver”, turn the cube to 4 and keep the cube at his side. If A believes B is wrong he can say “Raccoon” and turn the cube to 8. All this time, B remains the owner of the doubling cube. If B wishes to raise the stakes once more, he only needs to say another silly name (the animal’s name is a controversy among players) and so on.

The Chouette-

Chouette is a version of backgammon for more than 2 players. One of the players is the “Box” and plays against the rest of the group on a single board.

Another player is the “Captain” of the group, who throws the dice and makes the moves for the group playing against the box.

If the Box wins, the Captain goes to the back of the line and the next player becomes the Captain of the team. If the Captain wins, he becomes the new Box, and the old Box goes to the end of the line.

The rules regarding the ability of the group to consult with the Captain changes from

version to version. In some versions of the Chouette the group can freely give advice to the Captain, and in other versions, consulting is strictly forbidden.

The compromised version is the most popular- consulting is legitimate only after the dice have been thrown.

Originally, Chouette was played with a single die .The only decisions that players other than the Captain were allowed to make on their own was concerning the takes: If the Box had doubled, each player on the team could take or drop independently. Today, a multiple-cube Chouette is more popular; each player on the team has his own cube, and all doubling, dropping, and taking decisions are made independently by all players.

Saved by the bell

May 30th, 2007

Our company was primarly a supplier of computer hardware and
telecommunications products. However through our online dealing
with overseas and local companies we came across or were offered
to participate in several e type business opportunities. We also
tried a variety of sites including auctions and communities as
well as notice boards and forums. Anywhere we could think of to
get our name out there. In doing so we came across a number of
sites where we could actually earn revenue while advertising our
business and some of them were so automated it involved very
little input from us.

So we decided to investigate this further and started taking
part in online surveys ,research and focus groups and joining
affiliate programs thats how this site www.nzpcs.co.nz came into
existance .We ended up with a tangle of sites and links all
going different places and decided to centralise the ones that
were bringing in the best returns. Also some of them didn’t fit
in with our core business and made our main site look
unprofessional .So we grouped what we considered the better ones
not always by the dollar value they returned .As the points we
earned in auctions were worth a lot more for advertising than
the money we could convert them into and gave us access to large
numbers of users that were looking for the same things we
provided.

Our experiance showed us that in a lot of cases the more
incentive that the sites offered to use their services the less
we would get back in return traffic or gains. We made it a rule
of thumb to check out any lead that showed itself on multiple
search engines and also to make the sites to investigiate a
higher priority if they didn’t spam or send multiple emails
basically just rewording the same offer based on the principle
if their product was so good and the offer and returns true they
wouldn’t need to resort to these tactics to get more sign ups.

All in all its been an interesting venture to date sometimes
frustrating, full of highs and lows when we felt we hit the
jackpot only to find we were heading down scam city road. I
personally avoid any sites that guarantee you set incomes of
unrealistic returns or where you are getting in on the end of a
trend. Money back warranties when they said they’d make you
1000s in a short period of time. (if they did, why would you
want your money back is beyond me ). Anyway I hope our

ventures as I believe Karma has a way of biting you back in the
butt. Anyway good luck to all with your ventures with
persistance and thought through research I feel there really can
be a pot of gold at the end of the internet rainbow.

Setting Up Your AntiVirus Software

May 30th, 2007

There is far more to antivirus software than just opening the
box, inserting the CD and installing software. To be properly
protected you may actually want to do a little more than that.

You see, a good antivirus program does a lot more than you might
think. In this article we will be discussing features of Norton
Antivirus 2002, one of the best and most full featured programs
available. Similar functions exist in the other major scanners.

The first thing you must do in this day and age is purchase and
install antivirus software. If you don’t have this installed you
are literally living on borrowed time.

Some of the common features are described below.

Auto Protect

Perhaps the most important feature of all is auto protect. This
feature allows the antivirus system to perform it’s tasks
without manual intervention. This is critical as then you can
relax and do what you need to do, without constantly worrying
about checking for viruses. Keep this turned on without fail.

Checking for email viruses

This is one of the most critical features of a modern antivirus
program is the ability to scan email messages as they arrive or
are sent. Scanning of this nature is relatively new and long
overdue.

DO NOT TURN THIS FEATURE OFF.

It’s very important to remember that the most destructive
viruses arriveas attachments in email messages. I know, I know,
you would never, ever open anything that even remotely looked
like a virus, would you? But how would you know? Do you want to
take the chance on destroying your system?

Scanning disks for viruses

Most virus scanners will occasionally scan your disks for
anything that looks like a virus. In Norton Antivirus, you can
schedule this scan for as often as you like - in fact, many
people turn it off entirely. After all, while the scan is
running your system will be slower than normal. It can be quite
annoying.

Turning off the automatic disks scans is, however, a big
mistake. These check your disks for any viruses which may have
gotten through the front line defenses. How does this happen?
You could copy a virus to your hard drive from a CD ROM, a
floppy or perhaps across the network. It will be just sitting
there, waiting to explode in your face. Scanning the disks finds
these little time bombs and eliminates them.

But wait, if you have your antivirus program running won’t it
catch and stop any viruses that you happen to open? Yes it will,
but you could still copy it to someone else, or another person
could grab it over the network (if you are in a company, for
example). Or perhaps for some reason you turn off your antivirus
program, then you could accidentally open it up and destroy your
system.

Scanning for viruses in scripts on web pages

Believe it or not, you can catch a virus from a web page. All
you have to do is view the page and bang, you are infected.
There are not many of these yet, but you can bet there will be
in the near future. These are particularly nasty because, well,
you don’t have a choice about executing the virus.

These are not like the email viruses, which require you to
actually open an attachment. They are not like other viruses,
which require you to execute a file. These simply require you to
view them. Pretty scary, if you ask me.

Thus, as you can see, it’s very important to keep this feature
enabled at all times. That way you will catch and destroy these
things before you get hurt.

Regular updates

Be sure to subscribe to and use the regular virus updates. You
see, new viruses are found all of the time, and if you don’t
update your definitions you will be vulnerable. In fact, after a
few months of no updates your antivirus software becomes
virtually worthless.

Conclusions

The features of your antivirus software are put there for a
reason. My advice is to enable everything. Turn it all on. These
days you cannot be too careful - or, if you prefer, you can
disable something and perhaps lose your data. It’s your choice.
