The 7 Best-Kept Secrets to Ultimately Achieve Success In Your Life And Your Home Business

July 29th, 2007

As you read every word in this article, you will ultimately discover 7 powerful secrets that will effectively make you more productive, and help speed up the overall success of your home business.

These secrets must be applied on a daily basis to ensure your long term success.

Let’s get started:

1. Discover Your Self Worth

“Success is created with a positive routine” –Carlos Garcia

Free yourself from the negativities in the world and focus on your inner peace. First and foremost you must start taking care of yourself, before you can effectively help inspire those around you.

The trick is to *always* remain positive at all times, no matter how negative things seem to get.

In order to properly jump start your day, simply sit alone in silent meditation at least twice a day for approximately 15 minutes in the morning, and 15 minutes in the evening. This process alone will help you accomplish the positive state of mind that you want to be in.

Since you only have control over yourself and the actions you make, *avoid judging* events and situations as they occur throughout the day, because being judgmental can seriously lead you into a devastating pattern that will affect your attitude for success.

Accept each and every situation as it occurs, and know that everything in your life happens for a reason, and everything is as it should be.

Notice how judgmental people are *always* concerned with the opinions of others. They shift their focus, and energy towards everybody else and eventually lose focus of themselves. Their mind then becomes clouded and cluttered with negative energy that they really don’t need.

Wouldn’t you rather enjoy life?

2. Give And You Shall Receive

You may have heard me say “Help people get what they want and they will Help you get what you want”

When ever you meet someone new, provide them with a gift or a compliment. This gift may be a free report, a free eBook, an article, or silently wish them the best of luck in their life. Give something to everyone you come into contact with, and this in turn will dramatically increase your chances of making new friendships, partnerships, which will lead you to create a tremendous amount of joy, riches and prosperity in your life and in the lives of others.

Welcome and appreciate all the gifts that your home business will offer you. Be open to receiving from others, as it will potentially lead you in the direction you want to go.

Learn to effectively keep wealth circulating in your life, by giving and receiving from the specialized group of people you work with. Always remind yourself of the spectacular things people have done for you, and exercise a positive routine to help encourage them to do the best they can with their lives.

3. Self Awareness

It is crucially important for you to become aware of the consequences of each choice you make, whether it is positive or negative. Realizing those choices will bring you closer to your conscious awareness, and prepare you for a better tomorrow.

When ever you think about making a choice, here are 2 important questions to ask:

“What are the consequences of this choice?” and

“Will this choice bring fulfillment and happiness to me, and to those who are affected by this choice?”

If the choice you’re making feels comfortable, than move forward with a positive attitude and “Just Do It”, like Nike says. However, if the choice feels uncomfortable, pause for a moment, and try to envision the consequences of your actions.

This guidance alone will dramatically help you improve the choices you make for your home business, and in your personal life.

4. Keep An Open Mind

Learn to effectively accept people, situations, circumstances, and events as they occur. Appreciate and understand that each moment is as it should be. When you struggle against any given moment, the situation will ultimately become too complicated for you to handle.

Accept everything as it is, not as you wish it was.

Why?

When you accept things as they are, you become responsible for your situation and for any events you see as problems. Taking responsibility means not blaming anyone or anything for your situation. Look at every problem, or obstacle you encounter, with an open mind and grasp this opportunity to make positive changes in your life.

Accept ALL these negative events as opportunities in disguise, and transform them into a greater benefit for your future success. Be open minded with the opinion of others and remind yourself to *first* give others what they want, before you can achieve what you want.

5. Know Your Desires

Write a list of all your desires and take this list wherever you go. Make a mental note of this list before you go into bed and when you get up in the morning.

Always keep a positive attitude by believing that everything contained in your list of desires will be accomplished. Especially when things don’t seem to go your way,

Remind yourself to be aware of all your actions. Do not let any minor obstacles consume and affect the quality of your intentions. A positive attitude will keep you moving forward, leading you in the direction you want to go.

6. Let Things Go

Welcome any circumstances to come into your life with open arms, whether it is in your best interest *or not*. Do not try to justify the negative problems with solutions by imposing idea’s of how things should be, because you will only create bigger problems for yourself.

Learn to let the little things go, so you can focus your full potential and energy on your home business, and the positives in your life.

When you accept uncertainty, solutions will spontaneously emerge out of the problem, confusion, and chaos. Don’t allow yourself to fear the unknown. Instead, let things be for the moment, and you will soon find your path to security and happiness because uncertainty is your path to freedom.

With this amazing knowledge of uncertainty, you will find the security that will let you take complete control of your life and your home business.

You will soon discover all the opportunities, and excitement that can occur when you remain open to the possibilities of choices within yourself.

7. Take Action With Your Purpose In Life

Promise yourself that you will exercise these 7 tantalizing secrets that will ultimately improve the quality of your personal life, as well as directing you towards success in your home business. Start this journey by taking care of your heart, body, mind, and the spirit that lies deep within your soul.

Let go of all the negative problems and focus your attention towards the positive events that transpire in every moment of your life. Challenge these negative occurrences and constantly fuel yourself to remain positive, no matter what is happening.

I don’t have to convince you that just by making a list of all your unique talents, you will dramatically improve your self worth. Use your unique skills to guide you in the success of your home business and to service humanity because this in turn will create an infinity of possibilities in your life and in the lives of others.

That’s exactly what will happen to you!

Don’t take my word for it, justask yourself daily, “How can I serve?” and ”How can I help?” The answers to these questions will allow you to help and serve your fellow human beings and your business will achieve extra-ordinary profits as a result.

Intonation: An Essential Element of the American English Accent

July 29th, 2007

Intonation in English.

Intonation, the “music” of a language, is perhaps the most important element of a correct accent. Many people think that pronunciation is what makes up an accent. It may be that pronunciation is very important for an understandable accent. But it is intonation that gives the final touch that makes an accent correct or native. Often we hear someone speaking with perfect grammar, and perfect formation of the sounds of English but with a little something that gives her away as not being a native speaker.

Therefore, it is necessary to realize that there are three components to an accent, pronunciation, intonation, and linking. In other places we will examine pronunciation, the proper formation of vowels and consonants, and linking, the way that syllables within a word, and the beginning and ending of words come together.

We will look at three places that help us to hear clearly the difference that intonation makes in the daily use of a proper North American English accent. The practice with the following three situations will help you to notice, practice, and master the different intonation patterns that you will discover as you concentrate more on your use of North American English.

The three situations are: 1. the different intonation of the same word when it is used as a noun or as a verb; 2. the different intonation of the same word when it is used as an adjective or as a verb; 3. the intonation of expressions of two words.

You can find more on this topic at: http://www.goodaccent.com
There are resources at: http://www.goodaccent.com/accentbooks.htm
And in Spanish at http://www.inglesparlatinos.com/Pronunciar.htm

1. Intonation: Noun Verb

Knowing when and where to stress the words you use is very important for understanding, and is part of a good accent. A clear example is that of the different stress in nouns and verbs.

It will be useful for you to be aware of the stress in both cases. Here is a list of a few that will get you thinking and give you some practice in identifying them and using them correctly. Underline the syllable that is stressed, and write a brief explanation to indicate that you understand the difference. I start the exercise with two examples, the words suspect and present. You do the rest. And make sure you pronounce the words OUT LOUD.

The manufacturer couldn’t recall if there’d been a recall.

The religious convert wanted to convert the world.

The political rebels wanted to rebel against the world.

The mogul wanted to record a new record for his latest artist.

If you perfect your intonation, your accent will be perfect.

Due to the drought, the fields didn’t produce much produce this year.

Unfortunately, City Hall wouldn’t permit them to get a permit.

……………………………….

2. Intonation: Noun/Adjective and Verb

In the previous case, we saw that verbs of two syllables often have the stress on the second syllable, while the related noun has the stress on the first syllable.

This case, along with the previous case, is an example of the effect that meaning has on intonation in English. Many native speakers do not realize that the “rule” of this section is pretty rigorous. To know it can help you in building your vocabulary at the same time as you perfect your intonation.

There is another intonation pattern that you must master. Verbs ending in the letters “ate” pronounce the letter “a” of the last syllable with the “long a” sound (the name of the letter “a”, the sound of the words steak and make).

Related nouns or adjectives pronounce the letter “a” of the last syllable with the indefinite schwa sound (the sound of the “a” of the word about>, or the second “e” in the word elephant )

For each word, indicate that you realize the effect of meaning on intonation by clarifying the difference between the two uses of the same word (“same” meaning having the same spelling.)

First, give a brief meaning of the word used as noun or adjective and put the letter I to indicate that the final letter “a” is the indefinite sound of the “a” in about..

Next, give a brief meaning of the word used as a verb and put the letter A to indicate that the final letter “a” is the sound of the “long a”. I start the exercise with two examples, the words alternate and appropriate. You do the rest. And make sure you pronounce the words OUT LOUD.

alternate I

Noun: A substitute

alternate A

Verb: To take turns.

appropriate I

Adjective: Correct or suitable

Appropriate A

Verb: To take over.

approximate

articulate

associate

graduate

intimate

moderate

predicate

Read the following sentences, pronouncing the words with the proper
intonation according to their use in the sentence.

The facilitator wanted to separate the general topic into separate
categories

Would you care to elaborate on his elaborate explanation?

Have you heard that your associate is known to associate with gangsters?

How much do you estimate that the estimate will be?

……………………………

3. Two Word Stress

Knowing when and where to stress the words you use is very important for understanding, and therefore, as part of a good accent. A clear example is that of stress in two word expressions.

The place of the stress depends on whether the two words are used to describe something like a “white HOUSE” (meaning a house that is painted white, and not blue or gray). In this case the most important note is the noun because we are talking about a house that happens to be white. Similarly, a fat BOY is an overweight young male.

But sometimes-short two word expressions are set and “consecrated”, and mean something special, like “the WHITE house” where Mr. Bush lives. In this case, the emphasis is on the adjective because we are more interested in stressing that it is the house that is known because it is white. Similarly, FAT boy is the nickname of a boy, chosen because it emphasizes his weight.

It will be useful for you to be aware of both types of two word expressions. Here is a list of a few that will get you thinking and give you some practice in identifying them and using them correctly. Underline the syllable that is stressed, and write a brief explanation, for both uses of each phrase. I start the exercise with two examples, the words white house and light bulb. You do the rest. And make sure you pronounce the words OUT LOUD.

WHITE house

In Washington

Polar Bears in Trouble

July 29th, 2007

Polar bears have long fascinated us. With their thick, white coats, they look incredibly cuddly, particularly the cubs. In truth, they are the biggest and most powerful bears on the planet. Alas, they may be added to the endangered species list.

Polar bears are an amazingly beautiful animal. Unfortunately, they are under a lot of pressure as a species due to climate change in the Arctic. Receding ice and pollution issues are leading to concerns polar bears may be facing extinction. To better understand polar bears, here’s an overview of this amazing animal.

While penguins are only found in Antarctica, polar bears are only found in the Arctic Circle. This, of course, means they are particularly susceptible to any environmental changes in the Arctic.

Polar bears are the largest bear species by over 400 pounds on average. They are primarily solitary creatures. For food, seal is always on the menu, but they will also scavenge if they come across something tasty. Interestingly, polar bears never drink water. They get it all from their meals.

Polar bears are known for their beautiful white coats. In truth, the coats are not white. The hairs are colorless, hollow tubes that absorb the light giving them the bears their white color. Polar bear skin is actually black like their noses. A common myth is the hollow tubes of polar bear skin can act like fiber optics for your phone. This myth has been disproved, but it gives you an idea of the nature of the hairs.

Female polar bears usually give birth in the last two months of the year. They almost always give birth to twins. When it is time to do so, the mothers will dig dens out of the snow and ice. They will remain in the den without food until the cubs are able to leave.

When born, polar bear cubs are absolutely tiny. They weigh less than one pound, which is pretty amazing considering an adult polar bear can weigh 1,100 pounds on average. After birth, the mother will stay with the cubs for two years and train them in all aspects of polar bear etiquette. After that she abandons them to their own fates. The fathers take no part in the raising of the cubs.

As with many animals, polar bears have some unique characteristics. They can walk up to 40 miles a day and swim up to 60. To catch seals, they stand over a breathing hole and wait for a seal to come up for air. They then swat the seal with their left paw, always their left paw for some unknown reason. After eating, they can go five days without swatting another seal.

As of the writing of this article, polar bear populations are under duress as the Arctic undergoes fundamental changes. Ice is melting and so is the territory of the polar bear. Latest estimates indicate only 25,000 polar bears remain.

‘Stuck on Stupid’ - A Rebuke for Media

July 29th, 2007

In all the finger pointing at the New Orleans’ Katrina debacle, the most cogent accusation was delivered by Lt. Gen. Russel Honore after taking charge of relief efforts.

Reporters peppered him about deaths, slow relief efforts, lawlessness and which government officials were responsible for failures.

Gen. Honore’s reply is a classic that should be writ on every journalist’s press pass: “Don’t get stuck on stupid!”

“We are moving forward, he said. “Please don’t confuse people. You are part of the public message, so help us get the message straight.”

The general had reason to be blunt. I was shocked to hear members of my profession depart from reporting to venting their feelings.

In the olden days, we called them “sob sisters.” Most newspapers had one, but they were relegated to tearjerkers about homeless orphans and spurned wives. Now, ugh, they have reappeared as “color commentators” on TV.

Katrina reporting seemed more soap opera than journalism. It has become the fashion for media idiots to stand out in a Cat-4 hurricane to tell us the wind is blowing. More depressing is post-storm reporting that for Katrina was an all-time fiasco.

Various media said 10,000 people might have been killed. In the four weeks since, the death total is reported by the New York Times to be 885. Terrible!

Yes, but. Louisiana Health Department figures for 2004 (latest available) give the Orleans Parish mortality rate for all causes as 840 residents – 28 per day.

One can extrapolate from official records, therefore, that Katrina is responsible for 45 more Orleanian deaths than usual.

Of course, reporters of Katrina’s aftermath were quoting “reliable sources ” – principally Gov. Kathleen Blanco, Mayor Ray Nagin and Police Superintendent Edwin P. Compass.

From them came such whoppers as armed mobs roaming the streets, murders, rapes of babies in the Superdome, widespread looting, abandonment of nursing home residents, and desertions of police, firemen and 911 operators.

In hindsight, we learn that there was some looting and two murders but no rapes of babies, shooting at rescue helicopters, or sharks swimming in flooded streets — as described by inexperienced reporters.

Real reporters verify important statements with a second source – and leave opinions to columnists back home.

The decline of journalism began with the advent of 24/7 cable news and website bloggers. It became entertainment.

For Katrina anchors, Fox News gave us Shepherd Smith and Geraldo Riviera. MSNBC gave us Chris Matthews

Smith became emotionally wrought about stranded evacuees afoot on I-10 elevated highway. He refused to cut away from his slot so he could hyperventilate about negligent rescues.

Riveria, ham actor of cable news, broke into uncontrollable sobs and hugs while interviewing a Black mother and child stranded in a flooded home.

Matthews, unabashed liberal, came unglued during a Katrina interview with Congressman Peter T. King. The latter insisted first-response duties were those of local authorities — rather than President Bush.

Rep. King committed truth: “You are distorting reality. That’s the problem. You and MSNBC have been carried away with this. You should all be ashamed of yourselves.”

This was an unsought answer. In a tantrum, Matthews abruptly cut off King’s camera and microphone.

Matthew Felling, of the center for Media and Public Affairs, notes that conditions in New Orleans were chaotic, and reporters accepted wild assertions from distraught sources.

“The fog of war, and gusts of a hurricane, cloud vital truths,” says Felling. “What we are seeing here is no different than the reports of museum looting after U.S. troops entered Baghdad.

“It’s not that different from election night 2000 when some journalists prematurely declared a winner. In all three cases, the public would have been served by a bit more patience and less feigned certainty.”

Social scientists call these “over-predicted events.” Just so. If journalism as a profession is to survive, the public will have to demand: “Just the facts, please!”

Pertussis or Whooping Cough

July 29th, 2007

Whooping cough a.k.a(also known as) Pertussis is a highly contagious disease. Whooping cough is one of the leading causes of vaccine-preventable deaths. There are 30 to 50 million cases of Pertussis per year. Of these millions of cases there is about three hundred thousand deaths each year. Basically all of these deaths occur in children under twelve months of age. Another quick statistic is that of these 30 to 50 million cases, 90% occor in developing countries.

The disease was easily and widely recognized in as early as 1578. It was later isolated in pure culture in 1906 by Octave Gengou and Jules Bordet. The complete Pertussis genome of 4,086,186 base pairs was sequenced in 2002. Inititially the Whooping Cough is characterized by mild respiratory infection symptoms. These symptoms include a cough, sneezing, and runny nose. This initial stage lasts for about one to two weeks. After this first two week period the cough changes character, with paroxysms of coughing followed by a “whooping” sound. Often times these coughing fits are followed by vomiting. This constant coughing and vomitting in several cases leads to malnutrition. Coughing fits gradually go away over the first one to two months. Other complications of the disease include pneumonia, encephalitis, pulmonary hypertension, and secondary bacterial superinfection.

Whooping Cough is spread by contact with an airborne discharge from the mucous membranes of an infected person. The disease is treated with antibiotics like erythromycin, azithromycin and clarithromycin. These antibiotics result in the person becoming less infectious but in the majority of cases does not change the outcome of the disease.

Immunizations for whooping cough are often combined and given with tetanus and diphtheria immunizations. These immunizations are given to infants at ages 2, 4, and 6 months, and later at 15 to 18 months and 4 to 6 years. Many cases of Whooping cough in adults will go unnoticed and diagnosed due to the fact that it is much less severe.

The Lowdown on Chase Platinum Visa

July 29th, 2007

The Chase Platinum Visa card is essentially a platinum card with an ideal rewards program. In this sense, users with very good credit ratings should get this card and make good use of its one-year 0% introductory APR benefit on both balance transfers and purchases.

Once the promotion period is over, the APR for purchases varies with the user’s credit rating, ranging from as low as 6% to as high as 15%, in accordance to the Prime Rate. However, the regular rate is advertised as 13.75%. As for the APR for cash advances, it is the norm for the rates of platinum to be higher, which is why the APR for the Chase Platinum Visa Card is at a whopping 23.75%.

On the flip side, there are no annual fees or registration fees required for this card on top of a flexible rewards program. The Chase Platinum Visa rewards program allows card users to collect points for every dollar users charge to their purchases. These points can then by used to redeem merchandise, gift cards, traveling tickets or even to get some cash back. Ideally, these points should be redeemed within a period of five years before they expire. Apart from that, there is also a limit as to the number of points that can be collected each year, with the maximum of 60,000 points.

Also, the Chase Platinum Visa card utilizes a two cycle average daily balance billing method that should be avoided by those who tend to carry monthly balances. Rather than charging the interest rate based on the monthly outstanding balance, the system averages out the balances of the previous month with balances of the current month. With this, interests payable will be higher as compared to the average daily balance system of interest tabulation.

Finally, the Chase Platinum Visa card also comes with a shorter grace period of 20 days and a barrage of fees for cash advances, balance transfers, surpassed limits and late payments. A fee of $15 is chargeable for balances amounting to less than $250 and a $39 fee for balances more than $250.

For more information or to apply for the Chase Platinum Visa, Eric Wasselman recommends Find Credit Cards.

Licensing 101

July 29th, 2007

© 2004, John Calder
http://www.TheEzine.net

As a marketer, you are no doubt familiar with the concept of reprint rights and resale rights. Perhaps you seek the dream scenario of acquiring exclusive rights to a hot niche product. Yet, you come up against an obstacle: no one has created a product in your niche!

Is there a way around this? Yes, and it comes down to re-examining where you source your content. When you fail to find a quality, resalable, digital product among the “reprint rights craze” crowd, it’s time to head back to the pioneers of content licensing. In other words, head straight to traditional book publishers.

Licensing 101

Licensing through traditional publishers appears daunting at first glance. Yet, the process is quite simple when you understand:

Types of rights available
What to look for
Who to talk to

Available Rights

Publishing rights fall within two very broad categories: Primary rights and Subsidiary rights. Primary rights, quite simply, describe all of the publisher’s intended uses of a given work. Subsidiary rights describe those uses left to the original author.

How these rights are assigned depends on the publishing agreement. Authors typically grant to their publisher: hardcover rights, paperback rights and translation rights. They may retain electronic reprint rights and book club rights, but this is not always the case. Again, it depends on both the publisher and author’s intended distribution of the work. There may or may not be third-party licensing options available.

What to Look For

As an information marketer, you want to find a work available for third-party licensing. Specifically, you should look for subsidiary electronic reprint rights. Start with small, specialized publishers first. You’ll face less bureaucracy and you’re also much more likely to acquire contact with the original author for direct negotiation.

It should be noted that some publishers require continual licensing fees from third-party sales. When you acquire electronic reprints rights, you do not necessarily get a “one off” license to reprint the same way you do in the internet marketing world. Many publishers classify one time fee rights acquisition as “Direct Marketing Rights”. Yet, those rights extend only to tangible books. You’ll need to negotiate a special case if you want to avoid perpetual licensing fees, assuming the publisher holds the subsidiary rights. However, if the author retains those rights, you may be able to work out a joint venture.

Who to Talk To

Typically, your first contact will be with the publisher. Visit the publisher’s website and look for the contact information for the “Subsidiary Rights Department” (This is the common department name. In some cases, you may need to search for variations like “Rights and Acquisition” or “Acquisition and Licensing”).

In other cases, authors may negotiate rights through their agents or their publisher may outsource licensing issues to third-party agencies. Again, the publisher should be able to direct you in either case.

Resources to Get You Started

Subsidiary licensing does involve more negotiation and more legal responsibility than an average resale rights venture. Ultimately, you may need to hire an attorney to assist in contract negotiations on third party rights. Meanwhile, familiarize yourself with these resources for comprehensive information on rights acquisition as it pertains to the publishing industry:

Are You Ready To Own A Recreational Vehicle?

July 28th, 2007

Does “roughing it” in the luxury of a warm home on wheels sound like your idea of camping? Would you be happy at a campsite where you could have a roaring campfire, bar-b-qued meals on an open grill, and the fresh outdoor smell of sea, forest or dessert? Would it even be better if you could sleep in a queen size bed with a forced air furnace keeping you warm at night or air conditioners cooling you during the day?

If this sounds like your kind of camping, then getting a recreational vehicle might be what you need to look into. There are a lot of resources on the internet to help you learn about RVing. A Google search will turn up many more. There is helpful information online that will help you decide on what style RV is best suited to your needs.

Sleeping in the open or in a tent is a wonderful experience that many enjoy for years. Maybe you have camped that way or maybe you are new to the idea of spending time in the wilderness. If you could use a lot more comfort and freedom to camp in more types of weather, RVing could give you and your family some wonderful memories

Today, like no time in history, there are more options for owning a RV. There are inexpensive and very expensive trailers and motorhomes. There are many styles and price ranges. You can buy new or used and still get a great bargain.

A RV typically will have a bedroom with a large bed and closet space. It will have a living room with a couch that folds out into a bed, a dinette, an easy chair that probably reclines and may also be a rocker. Your kitchen will have a refrigerator, gas stove, an oven and a microwave, plus a double kitchen sink. Some are appointed with leather furniture that makes some home furnishings look outdated. RV’s are like mini apartments.

You can find tent trailers from $500 on up on the used market. You can find motorhomes from $1500 up to $200,000 and more on the used market. If you want to buy new the price ranges vary depending on the type of experience you want. You could spend a few thousand on up to close to $1,000,000. You can go from sparse to luxurious. There are 14 foot trailers and trailers and motorhomes in excess of 40 feet.

If you have not been inside a modern RV, you should locate an RV show in your area and plan on attending. Make it an all day affair. If there isn’t a RV show coming to your town soon, then find the nearest RV dealership and spend a few hours touring their various models of motorhomes and trailers. You may have to visit a few dealers to find all the styles of trailers and motorhomes.

Modern RVs have slide out rooms that make a narrow RV much more spacious. These “slides” are power driven and go in our out at the push of a button. When you go into a RV with one, two or even three and four slides, you will think you are in a beautifully appointed home with all the amenities of a one bedroom apartment

Do you know that living in a RV fulltime is becoming an attractive option for many people who cannot afford the cost of a new home? Space rent in a nice park can run you $150 to $500 a month. This may or may not include utilities. If you own a spacious RV or have low payments on one, you monthly “house payment” would be much lower than owning or renting a home.

Whether you want a small trailer for simple camping, a larger trailer for luxurious camping, a motorhome you can drive without a tow vehicle or a camper van with more amenities than ever, RVing may be just what you need to improve your lifestyle.

How To Harness The Power Of Web Directories: The Missing Link In Your SEO Strategy

July 28th, 2007

So you want exposure on the Internet? Of course you do. You want
to drive people to your site, because that’s the only way your
online business can succeed. And the more eyes you can get to
your page, the better off you are. It’s common sense.

You’ve probably already thought of Google, and rightfully so.
It’s the top search engine, so you want to make sure you’re a
part of it. You may have also done some search engine
optimization, and tweaked your site in certain ways so that
Google will index you better. That’s a good start, but it’s also
where many people go wrong.

The search engine marketing community often discusses this faux
pas: people become obsessed with ranking on Google, and forget
that there’s so much more to the Internet, so many more places
where you can be found. It’s back to common sense again: don’t
put all your eggs in one basket. Here are some reasons why:

- People use multiple search engines. According to
Nielsen//NetRatings, 58% of the people who search on Google also
use another search engine. The same is true for 70% of MSN
searchers, and 71% of Yahoo searchers. If consumers are looking
for information in several places, it only makes sense for you
to be in as many of those places as you can.

- Google indexes your web directory listings. Ironically, when
you work to broaden your horizons beyond the Google universe,
you’re also working to improve your chances of showing up on
Google. That’s because when a major search engine indexes the
Internet, it also indexes the content of other directories.

Here’s the best part: if you can get listed in a web directory
that provides search-engine-friendly one-way-links (that is,
links that connect directly to your URL), you are essentially
acquiring a “vote” to your site, and therefore improving your
site’s authority in the eyes of Google, Yahoo and other major
engines.

There are thousands upon thousands of Internet directories where
you can list your site. Some will charge for submission, and the
price will vary, from as little a few dollars, to as much as
hundreds. Some will accept your site right away, and others will
need to review it, to ensure the integrity of their database.

Common sense applies again here: the goal is to get listed in as
many directories as you can, so you get maximum exposure. But
web directory submission can be very time consuming, so you have
to be selective to maximize your productivity. Here are a few
things you’ll want to keep in mind:

- If the price seems too high, it’s probably not worth it. If
you have a little money to invest, it’s a good idea to get into
some of the paid inclusion directories. Pick and choose from
some of the mid-level ones, and try to diversify your presence
by picking some foreign directories, as well as some local ones.
Some directories also offer special inclusion, where you pay a
premium to get listed quicker. It’s definitely worth it if
you’re looking to improve your traffic as quickly as possible.

- Before submitting to any web directory, check to make sure the
directory is not banned by Google. Here’s a handy site, where
you can type in the URL of the web directory and find out if
it’s banned right away: HREF=http://123promotion.co.uk/tools/googlebanned.php rel="nofollow">http://123p
romotion.co.uk/tools/googlebanned.php

- Be prepared before you start submitting. Write a few
descriptions for your website in different lengths (50 words,
100 words, 200 words), so you can just copy and paste when
you’re submitting. This is guaranteed to save you a lot of time.

- If you don’t want to spend a lot of time searching for,
picking and choosing directories, start at this page, which
provides a great list of the top search-engine-friendly
directories on the web: HREF=http://www.eliteweb.cc/directory/internet/web_directories rel="nofollow">ht
tp://www.eliteweb.cc/directory/internet/web_directories

- If you don’t have a lot of time to devote to this, don’t worry
about doing it all in one shot. Bookmark the link above, and
take a few minutes every day to do one or two directory
submissions, until you make it through the list.

Good luck, and happy submitting.

Why Women Should Worry About Retirement More Than Men

July 28th, 2007

Women earn an average of 76 percent of men’s salaries. Does that
shock you? Yes, even in 2005, women are still way behind the
earning curve in corporate America. But rather than get into a
discussion of the fairness or unfairness of it all, let’s
concentrate on just what women can do to ensure that they aren’t
left out to dry in their retirement age!

After all, because women typically live seven years longer than
men, combined with the skyrocketing divorce rate, many women
will find themselves alone in their older years. (Statistics
show that most women are alone by age 56!) And the figures show
us that if a woman took out any time from her career to have
children (about seven years) she will pay for it later with only
50% of what her male counterparts will receive in retirement
benefits.

Sigh.

So, what can a woman do to ensure that she can retire in style?
Start by taking a look at some of our suggestions below.

Save More

Most experts advise us to save about 10 percent of our income in
order to have a sufficient amount to retire one, but if you are
a woman, you should be saving closer to 12 percent. Because of
the reasons listed above, you simply won’t receive the same
amount in retirement pensions. What’s more, the way that social
security figures your monthly payment is based on the top 35
years of your work history. But guess what? If you were out for
seven or so of those years having children, they will be counted
as “O,” and the overall amount will be reduced.

Invest Wiser

Since you will need to save more by retirement age, you will
have to more careful with your investments. Know your risk
level, and then don’t exceed it under any circumstances!

Join the Team

Many employers offer investment and savings strategies such as
401K plans and savings matching programs, and if you are a
woman, you should plan to participate in all of them that you
can.

Use Cash, Not Credit

An alarming number of Americans today are in serious financial
trouble. This was made evident recently with the passing of the
new bankruptcy bill that will make it more difficult to file. A
record number of people filed for bankruptcy in anticipation of
it.

It’s easy to get into debt when people today spend an average of
$1.21 for every dollar they earn, but don’t be tempted to fall
into that trap. Instead, plan to put as much money away for the
future as you can.

Don’t Go It Alone

While it is important for all women to step up to the plate and
get serious about their finances, it’s equally important for
them to get advice from professionals. Talk to tax planners,
investment specialists and budget planners to get all the advice
that you can.
