Have You Seen LCD Projection TV?

April 30th, 2009

Have you seen LCD projection TV? No, really. I don’t just mean a picture online or in an advertisement on a normal tube television, but have you actually seen LCD projection TV? It really is completely different that what even the hardest of hardcore couch potatoes have ever witnessed. It is impossible to properly describe the effect of LCD projection TV, but roughly the LCD projection TV is to normal TV what the CD is to the cassette tape. Leagues of difference, I say. LCD projection TV is the bee’s knees, the cream in your coffee, the sprinkles on your donut, the…aw, enough. Let’s cut to the chase.

Big yet sleek and impressive without ostentatiousness, Toshiba has a pair of outstanding 42″ LCD projection TV sets to draw the consumer’s eye. The featured Toshiba LCD projection TV, the 42″ LCD projection TV, is but one representative of the “Diagonal Cinema Series” bunch. Just under thirty-five hundred dollars (see Toshiba.com for ordering information), this 42″ LCD projection TV comes replete with Toshiba’s “adaptive LCD projection TV technology,” which makes feasible the addition of innumerable extensions to this LCD projection TV, thereby allowing all your favorite doodads all the benefits of LCD projection TV, up to and including Dolby-based sound systems.

Speaking of sound systems, have you heard the Sony LCD projection TV line? No, I mean have you really heard a Sony LCD projection TV? Well, it’s Sony and that right there says a lot. Audio has been at the heart of Sony business since time immemorial (okay, the 1950s to be precise), thereby levering LCD projection TV sets against the competition as in other audiovisual fields.

Sony product information promises the LCD projection TV to be at center of a complete audio “suite.” Stuff like Focus technology, TruBass and SRS 3-D dot the T’s and cross the I’s of the LCD projection TV experience. It is said that good sound can save an average movie, but poor sound can ruin a great movie. If one of the prime selling points of LCD projection TV in general is the technology’s presentation of movies, Sony LCD projection TV should be a must on any serious LCD projection TV shopper’s priority list. See Sonystyle.com for the entire LCD projection TV line, not to mention a tantalizing description of SRS WOW technology; you can rest well assured that this will warm the movie goer’s cockles.

Some Questions to Ask When Buying an Air-Purifier

April 30th, 2009

So, you’ve finally decided to invest in an air-purifier. No doubt you’ve been bombarded with online pop-up ads and the usual sales spiel about air-purifiers during your research for the ideal air-filtration system for your home or office. Perhaps you’ve even more confused now than before! Here are some aspects you should consider before making your final purchase, to help to decide which air-purifier is best suited to your specific needs.

How much does it cost to maintain the product in the long run?

The initial purchase price is not the only investment that you will be making in this product. That is just the tip of the iceberg, so to say. Don’t buy the cheapest model in the market only to find out that the replacement filter is steeply priced. What you need to consider are other costs attached to running and maintaining the air-purifier. For instance, if the purifier has a filtration system, how often does it need replacement and how much will that cost? Are there any other components that need replacement periodically? Electricity consumption is another factor to take into account. Check the wattage of the air purifier. Have you made a note of the warranty or guarantee period bundled with the product?

The noise factor

What is the noise level trade off vis–vis health advantages of the air-purifier that you are willing to endure? A higher wattage air-purifier may be able to clean a higher volume of air, but it might also make more noise. If noise level is an important consideration for you, perhaps you can request the company for a demonstration. Will you be able to return the product if you find it unsatisfactory? Do check out the money-back guarantee, carefully, if offered.

Which parts of your home need purification?

Your choice of air-purifier will naturally depend on your need to purify. Do you need it specifically for one bedroom? Are you buying it mostly to remove pet hair? Would you prefer it to be portable from room to room? So, the thing to take into account is the coverage area that the air-purifier will decontaminate. Most units are portable but there are others that can be affixed to your home’s central heating and cooling units. This option will certainly cover your entire house but may not be as effective as a stand alone unit for a single room. Do note the air-purifier’s specification on the amount of area it will purify.

Gambling: Gaming Room Taking a Chance

April 27th, 2009

On the assumption that you have not figured out betting room gaming, read on —

By general definition a casino is a building that features betting. Customers are encouraged to gamble by challenging the one-armed-bandits or alternative pastimes of chance. Betting room games as a rule have mathematically derived probabilities included that safeguard the establishment retains dominion over the gaming fans.

A lot of betting saloon games can sway you into getting overly dependent swiftly. E.g. there’s the good old 1 armed bandit, a coin operated gadget with three cogs which circumvolve when a lever hitched to it is operated. The gadget by and large renders in correspondence to a combination of pictures observable on the front of the contraption. Regretfully, betting establishment pastimes furnish a hallucination of supremacy, conning the visitor — the victim is tasked with decisions, but they do not really compensate for the customer’s long term odds. That is brought about by the the betting saloon not paying the entire wager as expected. This structure is often seen at work in acclaimed casino games like Texas hold’em poker, craps, roulette or blackjack.

Five-card stud is truly an incredibly fashionable casino game. The patrons, closely guarding their either fully or partially guarded hands, must place bets into a pot in the center which is ultimately bestowed onto the last gamer enjoying the winning combination of cards. (And as eveyone knows, the shameless bluffer can easily win as well!)

gambling tips

Much the same as seven card stud poker, blackjack too is a highly fashionable casino game. A sizeable chunk of its notoriety is grounded in the mix of luck and skill and decision making, not to forget a method tagged card counting. It is a peculiar playing tactics in which visitors are in a position to significantly reverse the chances of the game for their own good both by betting & tactical decisions according to the hands dealt.

“Craps” is a famous game involving the roll of a couple of dice. Bettors bet on the result of one roll, or on a series of rolls of 2 dice. Contrary to blackjack, there just isn’t any proven bona fide winner tactics you could profit from to beat the odds.

Roulette is a notable gambling pastime - a croupier will twirl a roulette wheel incorporating a set of thirty seven (applies to European roulette) or, respectively thirtyeight (American roulette) differently marked receptacles in which a rolling ball must come to settle, which signifies the winning number Assuming that the punter happens to wager on any given number and makes it, which is to say it’s their lucky day, the guaranteed reward will be 35 to one, the initial wager is paid out. Consequently in totality the initial wager is increased by thirty-six.

How to Buy a Refrigerator, and What to Look for

April 26th, 2009

In the market for a new refrigerator, then you should know what to look for before you pull out your credit card. What features to look, best options for your needs and more.

First off you should be aware there are 4 different types of refrigerators on the market, that include, top-freezer (or top-mount), bottom-freezer (or bottom-mount), side-by-side and built-in. Top-freezer fridges are the cheapest of all refrigerators, Second in price is the bottom freezer, which I personally have. Then there is the side by side models, which have 2 doors that open, one problem that I don’t like is that side by side refrigerator models is that shelves are much narrower than top or bottom freezer fridge models. The most expensive is the built-in model, why do they cost the most? Built-in refrigerators are designed so they can match your kitchen’s look and feel exactly. Many home owners match the refrigerator to the look of the kitchen cabinet doors, giving your home kitchen a seamless look.

Next when shopping around think of the size you want in a fridge. There are 4 different sizes to choose from, small (7 to 9.9 cubic feet), medium (10 to 13.9 cubic feet), large (14 to 19.9 cubic feet) and extra large (20 to 29 cubic feet). Measure you’re fridge before you go shopping so you know how much space that you have to work with, the last thing you need is a fridge that won’t fit the space! Also how much freezer space do you need? If you want as much space as possible choose a side-by-side unit.

I own an Amana bottom freezer refrigerator and it has a filtered water dispenser located inside the fridge this is very useful. You will save space because you won’t need to purchase 4 gallon purified water jugs, get all the purified water right from your fridge. Oh and an ice maker is essential, this is standard feature in today’s fridges.

What is the energy rating on the fridge, look for an efficient model that will save you money on your electrical bill. The most energy-efficient refrigerators range in size from 16-20 cubic foot sizes. Do they offer rebates on certain models, you can save hundreds of dollars if you choose a model that has some type of a rebate offer.

The last tip I can recommend is that you check out what kind of warranty your refrigerator has. Does it have a 1 year warranty on any part of the refrigerator that fails because of a defect. A good warranty will include five years on any part of the sealed refrigerating system.

Portable Generators

April 25th, 2009

Portable generators are used in homes and in places where there is no power or the need for power is minimum. Portable generators are generally smaller and are designed to use for a few. A portable generator of 5KW has enough power to keep lights, refrigerators, computers and televisions running for 7 to 8 hours. Portable generators are normally powered by gasoline, diesel, propane or natural gas. They are the most popular of all portable generators. Gasoline generators are relatively less expensive but require frequent maintenance and have a shorter life span. Gasoline has a short shelf life and cannot be stored for a long time unless treated with stabilizers.

Diesel generators, on the other hand, are fuel-efficient, consume less fuel per kilowatt of power produced, have longer life and require less maintenance. Diesel can be stored for longer periods of time. However, they are harder to start in cold weather and noisy. Portable generators powered by natural gas or propane is the best choice if available. The generator lasts longer and burns cleaner.

Before choosing a portable generator, the total wattage of all appliances to be powered by the generator must be calculated. This includes the starting wattage required by appliances with motors, such as refrigerators and freezers that use two or three times their normal wattage power to start. The generator should not only meet the normal wattage, but the start up wattage of the appliances. Moreover, the generator must have the necessary voltage ratings to run electric appliances such as the ovens and clothes driers that are rated at 240 volts. A portable generator should have at least two receptacles of 120 volt each. Generators that provide a longer runtime per tank of fuel or having a fuel tank capacity of around 5 gallon of fuel are preferred especially, by people living in areas where power failures are quite frequent.

A portable 7KW generator that can power lights, furnaces, sump pumps, televisions and refrigerators may cost $1000 or more depending upon the quality and the type of generator. For a normal home, an ideal generator would be in 10KW to 12 KW costing around $2700 for 10KW and $3700 for a 12 KW. Portable diesel generators are available for use on construction sites in the range of 200KW and more.

Before operating the generator, read and follow the instructions given in the owner’s manual. Observe the operating and the maintenance procedures strictly for safe and trouble free operation. Avoid putting loads on the generator that exceed the manufacturer’s rating. Also, do not run too many devices at the same time. This trips the generators circuit breakers causing loss of power. The generator must be operated at least twice a year with full load to keep it in working condition. Keep the generator outside the house but never in a garage or in a basement. Carbon monoxide emitted from the generator can be hazardous to health. Use only the recommended extension cords for the generator. Hire the service of a qualified electrician to install a transfer switch if the generator is to be connected to home wiring. Do not refuel the generator when it is under operation. Spilling of fuel may cause fire. The generator should be kept dry and should not be run in wet conditions.

Complying With the OH&S Act by Testing and Tagging Electrical Appliances in Accordance of AS3760

April 18th, 2009

The Occupational Health and Safety Act places a duty of care to provide a safe workplace. Failure to maintain electrical equipment in a safe condition or to use equipment in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions may result in injury or death to yourself, employees, or other parties. To meet the duty of
care it is necessary to ensure that risk of injury from lectric shock for all people at the workplace is reduced as far as is reasonably practicable. A method of achieving this duty is by testing and tagging electrical equipment, and implementing procedures for use of electrical equipment.

“Portable electrical equipment, including flexible cords need to be regularly inspected for wear and mechanical damage, and periodically tested for earth continuity and insulation resistance. Procedures for testing of electrical leads, tools and equipment and the frequency of these tests can be found in: Joint Australian and New Zealand Standard AS/NZ 3760 In-service safety inspection and testing of electrical equipment”

Energy Safe Victoria, Regular Checking of Electrical Equipment, September 2005

Australian Standard 3760: 2003 In-service safety inspection and testing of electrical equipment.

In-Service procedures

Where applicable, in-service testing and inspection shall include:

  • External inspection of the equipment and the connecting facilities (eg flexible supply cord)
  • Protective earth continuity tests for Class 1 equipment, power boards and cord sets
  • Insulation testing, which may be achieved by measuring insulation resistance, or leakage current
  • Confirmation of the correct polarity of live connections in cord sets with re-wireable plugs and cord extension sockets.
  • Checks for damage to flexible supply cords that include:

  • The inner cores of flexible supply cords are not exposed or twisted
  • The external sheaths of flexible supply cords are not cut, abraded, twisted, or damaged to such an extent that the insulation of the inner cores is visible
  • Unprotected conductors or the use of banding insulation tape are not in evidence.
  • Unsafe equipment

To meet your duty of care under the OHS Act and to comply with the Australian Standard 3760:2003, equipment that may be unsafe should be withdrawn immediately from service and have a label attached warning against further use. Arrangements should be made, as soon as possible, for such equipment to be disposed,

    Graduation Diplomas For All

    April 17th, 2009

    Graduation Stole

The graduation stole dates back to the English tradition and usually resembles the one traditionally worn by catholic priests and Anglican priests. The stole, also referred as a sash, is a piece of fabric that is worn by graduates over the graduation gowns during graduation ceremonies. The stole normally holds various meanings for example membership in organizations such as the Greek foundations, sorority and fraternity, cultural and ethnic legacy or school accomplishments.
Initially, catholic priests wore stoles. However, since the England church was part of English education, the graduation stole
was adopted as academic attire in most graduation events. During these times, the purpose of the stole was to protect the wearer from the weather elements such as heat or cold. However, with time, university students began wearing the stole as an academic attire to signify academic excellence such as acquiring a degree or getting a doctorate.
The graduation stole can be worn in various ways. One, it can be loosely draped around the graduation gown or draped in front of it. Although academics use the stole in graduation events, other high school academics wear it during inaugurations together with other learned officials of the board of trustee of their respective schools.

    Flash Flood in A Pan!

    April 14th, 2009

When it comes time to clean your hot water heater, it’s important to install a drain pan which is sometimes referred to as a drip pan. It doesn’t matter if you are working on a water heater or even your clothes washer, putting a pan under it to catch any leaks is a great way to track the water flow away should it become a flood. If you have a dishwasher, a drain pan is not usually installed under it because this type of appliance is typically connected directly to a supply pipe. It doesn’t heat the water, thus minimizing the chance of a leak.

A drain pan is a necessity, especially if you’re putting in a new hot water heater or washing machine on the second floor or higher, or above your finished basement. This is especially true if it is going into a concrete- floored utility room which is just off a room with wood or carpeted floor. Remember, with any pan that you get, a hot water heater will hold a lot more water so it’s important that you get a pan that has an outlet tap. A washing machine that has a ruptured supply hose or tank will allow all the water coming to the appliance to pour onto the floor until the supply is turned off.

Remember to put a plate on the outlet to the floor drain or sump pump if you have one handy. If you have an upstairs laundry, install a sanitary tee in the drain pipe for the washing machine. It is usually located above the plumbing trap, but below the bottom of the drain pan, and pipe the outlet to that. If possible, pipe the trap down to a lower floor, and then tie it into a drainpipe making sure, of course, that there is a trap between the point at which it ties and in and the main drain leaving the house.
