6 Good Reasons For Writing An eBook

November 27th, 2007

Electronic books also known as ebooks for short are one of the
hottest properties on the Internet. The benefits of writing
an ebook are enormous.

As an Internet business owner, ebooks are powerful tools that
you can use to grow your business. Here are 6 good reasons for
writing an ebook:

(1) Easy to create

Ebooks are fairly easy to create and don’t require any special
knowledge. Basically you can create ebooks in two different
formats ie .exe and .pdf. Ebooks in .exe format can be read
by Window users but not Macintosh computers whereas .pdf formats
can be read by both. You just need Adobe Acrobat Reader to be
able to open pdf files which you can download free at

http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

There are a list of ebook compilers available on the market
that you can use to create .exe ebooks and .pdf ebooks.

(2) No big investment needed

Creating an ebook does not require a big investment. I make use
of Activ eBook Compiler to create .exe ebooks. You can try the
software free at http://www.ebookcompiler.com but there
will be ads in your ebook front page when you build it. For an
activation fee, the ads will be removed. This is a nice piece of
software. I really like it and it’s fairly easy to use when you
get accustomed to the software.

To create pdf ebooks, you can go to http://www.gohtm.com/convert_pdf.asp
This is a free web based service that you can use to convert your
word documents and other file formats to pdf documents.

(3) Developing your own paid product

If you know how to build your own ebook, you can easily create your
own product to make real money. You just need to write what you
know about. The Internet is a highway of information and you need
to create a product which focus on a specific topic. Basically
there is a huge potential for creating your own information products
and there is an infinite number of topics you can write about.

Not just topics related to internet marketing and online business
but other themes like cooking, gardening, pets etc. Now these are
niche topics and if you have knowledge in these areas, you can
easily create an info product in a digital format like an ebook
talking about this.

(4) Fast and instant delivery

A big advantage with ebooks is that the delivery process is fast
and instant. You don’t need product shipping for you don’t have
any physical inventory due to the fact that an ebook is purely
digital. You can give an unlimited number of copies to your
customers.

(5) Subscriber generation

If you can create your own ebooks, why not create a useful ebook
packed with quality information, then offer it as a bonus or gift
to generate new subscribers to your newsletter. This is an
attractive incentive to gain new subscribers.

(6) Viral Marketing Effects

Good ebooks can become your own traffic machine and it can has a
viral marketing effect. By viral, I mean it can propagate across
the Internet, hence your business can get big exposure for your
ebook contains links to your websites.

Say you create an ebook packed with great articles that you’ve
written and you allow others to distribute it freely to their own
susbcribers to give them quality information, or to get new
subscribers, your ebook and business will have great exposure.
If you have a quality ebook, some product owners might even use
it as a bonus to add more value to their offer.

Ebooks are becoming more and more popular on the Internet these
days for there is a huge potential to build a successful online
business around them. So go ahead and start creating your own
ebooks be it free or paid.

Selling Goodness-Introduction To The Book

November 17th, 2007

Unfortunately, I have seen too many of even the most noble and vitally needed
charitable nonprofits fade into obscurity, never having accomplished the
laudable goals they set out to achieve. In most cases, the reason for their
demise is that they did not promote themselves with vigor and assertiveness.
They either failed to learn to use public relations (PR) to their advantage or they
did not avail themselves of the services of professionals who could have
launched their causes into the limelight and helped them get the momentum,
manpower, and funds they needed to stay alive.

These early deaths are disappointing, unsatisfying-and tragic. They could have
been prevented if the right steps had been taken. As a public-relations
professional, I strongly believe that the world cannot afford to lose the efforts
of so many charities and nonprofit organizations which help solve the never-
ending problems that plague our fragile planet.

This book is therefore dedicated, with passion, to helping these charities and
nonprofits learn to use pubic relations of all kinds to accomplish their
important goals. Drawing on my background as the founder of one of
Hollywood’s most prominent public-relations firms, and having represented
hundreds of the entertainment industry’s biggest celebrities, I wrote Selling
Goodness to show you how to take advantage of professional public-relations
techniques on a fledgling charity’s often- impoverished budget. The book
describes how the media operates, and how you can make it work for your
charity or organization.

In the following chapters, you will find advice on such matters as pitching a
story, writing a press release, and giving an interview. I guide you through the
critical steps of a PR campaign, from initial contacts with the media through
follow-up, special events, and dealing with a PR crisis should one happen to
you.

Throughout the chapters, you will also find two types of “boxed features.” One
contains special hints about PR techniques or additional elaboration on a topic.
The other presents case his, stories of inspiring PR stories from my personal
files. Indeed, one of my joys in writing this book is that I get to recount some
of the great stories I’ve collected over the years of promotional techniques
used by many different businesses and nonprofits.

THE MORAL CASE FOR PROMOTION

But Selling Goodness is much more than a practical handbook on skills and
procedures. It is also a moral manifesto. If you are a humble do-gooder with
qualms about seeking either attention or special promotion, this book presents
a powerful case for promoting yourself and your charitable cause. I believe the
moral argument is especially compelling now that government is trimming
outlays on social services. Nonprofits are being called to fill in the gaps. They
will need more resources-and they therefore must do whatever it takes to get
them, especially vigorous promotion of their vital cause.

If after reading this book you are able to take your cause more seriously, and
promote it with greater vigor and intensity, you will not only be contributing to
your individual charity, but to the broader purpose of promoting goodness. It
may sound quaint but the truth is that the promotion of your charitable work
can assist ill living beings. This is a grand vision, to be sure. But imagine the
potential of a planet that is better nourished, both in substance and in spirit. I
believe this is our potential.

My plan in this book is direct, and the process doable. It can make you an ally
in the grand project of selling goodness, and, through that alliance, a portion
of paradise can be regained.

Review: Hugh Rosen’s Silent Battlefields

November 5th, 2007

Author: Hugh Rosen
ISBN: 0595347738

Hugh Rosen has created an emotionally charged read with his debut novel Silent Battlefields. At the heart of the novel and the central peg on which Rosen hangs his carefully crafted novel is a narrative involving two families that are woven together in a provocative and complex exploration of the evilness of the holocaust, its lasting effects on its victims and perpetrators, and the morality pertaining to Nazi avengers.

The novel slips easily from one character’s consciousness to another, as Rosen fills us in on their stories with many strong moments and powerful scenes. We first are told about twelve year old Selig Kruger, who in 1939 is forced to join Hitler’s youth movement, prior to his eventual entry into the German army. It is in the youth movement where he is taught to recognize the supreme virtue of Nazi ideology. Once indoctrinated into this belief system, he finds no difficulty in following orders until one day as a German soldier he becomes part of a mission with two other comrades to search for and kill any Jews in hiding along with the family members who have helped them.

Upon entering a farm home of a pastor and his family in Haranburg, a village many miles from Warsaw, he discovers a couple hidden in the attic and when he opens a closet door he notices their young daughter. He puts his index finger to his lips in order to signal to the young girl to remain silent and he then closes the door. However, he marches the child’s parents down the stairs where they, along with the pastor and his family, are shot to death by one of the soldiers. Selig runs out of the house and while he is being pursued by his comrades he kills them. Eventually, Selig finds his way after the war to Philadelphia where he marries the daughter of a rich German industrialist, becomes an eminent surgeon and fathers a son, Thomas.

Eva, the little girl whose life was spared, discovers the horrendous death of her parents and the family that was hiding them. She manages to escape and is saved by a gentile man, who brings her home, even though his wife is appalled at taking in a Jewish girl to live with them. After the war Eva likewise finds her way to Philadelphia, where she marries Professor Nathan Eisenstadt, becomes a psychoanalyst and bears a son, Mathew.

A series of incredulous coincidences, perhaps a stretch to believe, bring Selig and Eva’s families together and their respective destinies become intertwined, leaving us with a riveting and compelling narrative.

Rosen can clearly write, as his characters are skillfully crafted, fraught with flaws and internal conflicts. His characterization of Selig and Eva is solid and deft and his storytelling is not only genuinely surprising at times but also insightful. Rosen effectively interprets the events he describes and delves beyond the surface of the various characters he has brought to the page.

When I interviewed Rosen and asked him “what do you hope readers will take away after reading Silent Battlefields?” His reply was: “I hope that reading Silent Battlefields will enlarge the reader’s perspective on the resolving of ethical dilemmas and the complexities of life’s realities. Perhaps she or he will also be confronted with some provocative thinking, raising such significant questions as: “What would I have done in that situation?” Did he succeed? The answer is a resounding yes and I look forward to reading more from Hugh Rosen.

Lillian Brummet’s - Towards Understanding

November 2nd, 2007

“Mrs. Brummet takes you on a journey of her past life, a life that she worked hard at to stay afloat. I must say that during my reading of Towards Understanding, I realized that Lillian was able to touch on real feelings and real issues that are in our everyday lives. Her poetry makes you think, painting a picture of that moment she is describing. One of my favorites, Survivor, reveals her inner strength with honesty. Towards Understanding is written with determination and reverence. Spilling her heart in words, Lillian shows that she is a fighter. A fighter, who endures several rounds and makes it a point to get back up, and face another challenge.”

Many poems for many readers! Each poem centers on a subject that a person can identify with. Grasping the concept of the poem and catching an understanding that fits that person.

I definitely suggest this book of poetry. It pulls at your heart strings and as well pushes you to turn the page. This is for every one who, needs both!

Kick Start Your Success: Four Powerful Steps to Get What You Want Out of Your Life, Career, and Business
By Romanus Wolter
Wiley (2006)
Reviewed by Danielle Feliciano for Reader Views (3/06)

“Kick Start Your Success” is a book that lives up to its name. It is truly a way for a person to “kick start” his or her own success, whether it be personal or professional. In this small volume, the author provides the reader with a clear, concise outline of four basic steps to help turn goals into a reality. At the end of each step, the author provides a simple exercise for the reader to complete, which helps cement the concept in that chapter. These exercises are easy to follow, and help bring a clearer understanding of the principles in the book.

The first step really shows how important it is to recognize how your goal will help others, rather than just how it will help you. Also, this chapter points out the necessity of flexibility. We have to be willing to change and adjust our goals as we become closer to achieving them, and as our circumstances may change. Next, you are shown how important wording of a goal is. By showing the impact this goal will have on others in clear terms, it is easier for others to help you attain that goal. In the third step, the power of positive speaking is demonstrated. The author describes a “success script” as an essential tool in working toward a goal. In speaking positively, you are more able to attract success. Lastly, the author talks about taking action each and every day in order to make goals and dreams a reality. By putting these four steps into practice, and making them part of daily life, it is possible to achieve any goal a person may set.

Kick Start Your Success may be a slim volume, but it supports the age-old adage “Good things come in small packages”. There is not a single extraneous word in this book. The writing is clear and concise, and very easy to read. It is written in a friendly manner, and helps take the intimidating thought of an unattainable goal and helps break it down into small, manageable steps. Mr. Wolter has provided a wonderful reference to anyone who has great ideas, but a hard time making them a reality.

The Latent - book review

October 9th, 2007

Marshall Frank, author of six books, has proved an exceptional ability to write absorbing who-dun-it’s time and time again. According to his website he is able to do this by embellishing on real life experiences during his 30-year career investigating homicides in the Miami-Dade region of Florida. In doing so he creates a realistic, action-packed, suspenseful detective story with his recent release, The Latent – a fiction novel, that I found difficult to put down.

The Latent focuses on one main character - the completely stressed out, heart-broken police investigator, Rock Burgamy. Haunted by a childhood experience and the loss of his young son, Rock battles an inclination to numb his sorrow and stress with booze. And these are not his only secrets. Twice divorced, Rock is slammed regularly with alimony and child support payments for his two other children. In order to keep up with it all, Rock must take as much overtime as possible. Unfortunately, with all of this happening at once, he delves further and further into the bottle. But he is a good man, a stubborn man who will not let a case go unsolved without giving it his all – even if it means his life or sacrificing love.

A chain of gay men killings appear to have a connection and over-worked Burgamy is assigned the case. Plots thicken as the investigation deepens and poor Burgamy walks into several situations that set him up for a fall so big that he cannot get out alone.

Fantastic and intriguing insight into the underground street-sex establishments is only one of the many angles in this book. Problems within the police department from budget constraints and personal temptations to office politics is another. I am confident that The Latent will take readers inside this dark and dangerous world so smoothly that everything else fades away unnoticed.

Surefire Way To Find Hot Selling eBook Topics

October 7th, 2007

To become an entrepreneur, you need product ideas.

Even more important,

YOU NEED PRODUCT IDEAS THAT SELL.

To locate products that sell online, you need to understand
what people already want to buy.

The single biggest cause of failure when writing non-fiction
books, booklets, ebooks or any other information-based product
is a poor choice of idea or product.

It’s no doubt this is the main issue for anyone wanting to become
an entrepreneur, there are all kinds of twists along the
road that may lead you to THINK you have a high-demand idea.

For example, you are NOT part of a given niche market, yet
you see evidence that there are a great many people searching
for information on a particular topic. BUT - it turns out
they would not be willing to PAY for this information, it’s
either not important enough to them OR it’s too easy to find
the information elsewhere.

So, what do you do?

How do you really get to the bottom of demand?

It’s easier than you think - find out what people DO want to
purchase information on.

Here’s how.

Fire up your web browser and head one over to:

http://inventory.overture.com

Now, instead of searching for a particular topic, plug in
these search terms and have fun looking at the results:

“How To”

“Learn To”

“Tutorial”

“Advice”

“More Information About”

“Tips”

“How Do I”

See what I’m getting at?

These are the terms people use online when they are specifically
searching for information on a topic - as opposed to some other
aspect about it.

For example, when you perform a search on “How To”, you will
find among the top results:

“How To Knit”

“How To Tie and Tie”

“How To Draw”

“How To Cook A Turkey”

“How To Play Poker”

Bet you wouldn’t have thought THESE are the topics people are
already hungry for information now would you?

Want to test your idea?

Record the numbers you get from either Overture or Wordtracker
on top 10 results from searches recommended above.

Then, search for “How To [Insert Your Topic” and note the
comparable number of searches. Are you anywhere close to the
top 10, top 50, etc…?

You can get a pretty good idea of not just how MANY people want
your information product, but also how your idea relates to
many others that may sell better.

Believe me, it’s easier to work on topics that people already
want - don’t waste your time and effort on low demand topics.

The Storyteller - Fiction Books!

October 2nd, 2007

Review by Jessica Dearborn
Tolucan Times / Canyon Crier - California

“The Storyteller, Volume I” by Martha Whittington
AuthorHouse, Paperback, 514 Pages, $24

When inspiration hits, it is usually followed closely by desire. A willingness to do
whatever it takes to explain your inspiration, to create a picture. For a writer, her
tool is her pen. Storytelling in and of itself can be quite a challenge. For example,
what are you going to talk about? What story are you going to tell? You must have a
beginning that truly grabs, a keeper climax in the middle, and a bring-it-all-back-
together-again, ending. And, the dialogue… you constantly find yourself asking,
“Do people really talk like that?” At that point you will either cringe, cry, laugh, or
simply allow yourself a few moments of madness as you do all of the above
mentioned, plus tear your only copy to mere scattered pieces of what used to be.
Foreboding as it may be, writing can also be individually and socially rewarding.

That is, if you should decide to tread through your insecurities and walk the
uncertain path to the publishing world. Many fear this path and will therefore, never
walk it. On the other hand, there are writers who are not afraid and not only do they
walk it, at times they skip. And this is due to having a few good stories to tell.
Besides, that’s all a writer needs, anyway… a good story.
Martha Whittington has earned the right to tell her stories. She trekked around the
world in her early twenties, no doubt having her own adventures, making me
wonder where she has been and what she’s seen during her travels. And with her
memories, experiences, and creativity, she has brought to the reader a colorful
novel filled with mystery and encourages every reader, with the turn of each page,
to utilize all of their imagination.

The author shares some of her tales in “The Storyteller, Volume I.” It contains six
short stories titled: “The Fennigan Case,” “A Unique Team,” “The Hidden
Knowledge,” “A Gifted Child,” “The Witch,” and “Sand.” Although there is an obvious
lack of editing, and the language and grammar are careless, the stories are
compelling and are worth delving into. In “The Fennigan Case,” two rookie reporters
are sent out on a last minute assignment that takes them through a walking
nightmare, and then they disappear. “A Unique Team” is centered on the
consequences of a man’s choices. Within the pages of “The Hidden Knowledge,”
there is a teenaged boy who discovers he has a special gift that changes his entire
existence. In “A Gifted Child,” a child is born with the kind of soul that when
combined with his discovered powers, he becomes less and less likely to be voted
as Mr. Popularity. “The Witch” is a tale of a malicious woman that terrorizes a small
town. And finally, “Sand” rejoices two brothers bond, and the perils they endure
throughout their travels. Whittington’s storytelling ability is magical.

All the stories
are luring, some nail biting, and there are moments that are a little hair-raising. It
captures the readers’ senses; inevitably questioning that in which you thought you
knew. Once you regain your composure, it’s interesting to reflect on the story and
the characters that you’ve met. To assume you know where the story will take you is
naïve. Martha Whittington is a naturally gifted writer and storyteller, and her work
deserves to be read and acknowledged. As for her courage of facing the unknown
world and the other world of publishing, she is fearless and inspiring.
