What Does the World Owe You?

June 8th, 2008

Sometimes many of us feel like we’ve made deposits into society, yet we are unable to make withdrawals. Whenever I have felt that way in the past, I read essays like Ralph Waldo Emerson’s essay Compensation, which I made into a free downloadable copy and distributed last week in the special success issue of my ezine.

The other day a good friend of mine told me that I deserve to be more successful because I help so many other people, and so often without seeing a direct reciprocation. Just this morning, it was implied in another conversation that the internet community “owes” me something, in return for all the free site promotion and marketing information I give away.

But the truth is, I don’t wonder about what the world owes me any longer. That’s because I know better, through a long road of mental, physical, emotional and financial struggle, I’ve come to understand that the world really doesn’t owe me anything.

I’ve already been paid, and so have you.

We get our gifts at birth. We’re here. We’re alive. We’re given a set of circumstances, some to overcome, some to elevate us. And yes, sometimes it seems that the way the world works is unfair. But from a long-range view, is that truly the reality?

What’s really the difference between you and the next guy? Is the next person smarter than you, faster to pick things up? Maybe, maybe not. But even in that capacity, the main differences between someone who is successful and someone who is just barely keeping their head above water has nothing to do with that.

It h as to do with determination, and taking advantage of the opportunities presented to you, more than anything else. The paths to the belief in yourself that yield that determination are many, but the end of that path is the same: success.

Know-how, you can buy or develop through trial and error. If your situation forces you to take the long road, there are endless venues for study on and offline.

So who cares if the next person is smarter than you?

Between two people on an otherwise even keel, with the same chance for success, the tie-breaker trait is the willingness to do what it takes to get where they want to go. And that person is more likely to keep their eyes open for that chance to shine.

Nothing you ever learn from me or anyone else is magic- if I had a magic wand that would *poof* bring everyone success and instill the principles it takes to maintain it. I’d do it. (At least then someone else could go to the movies with me on Wednesday mornings!)

I’m not done with my journey to success yet. But looking at where I started and where I am now, every pain I had to go through to get here, every moment I had of feeling that I couldn’t possibly go on, every tear that was shed, was worth it. It all shaped me into who I am, and makes me grateful every day for every single bit of accomplishment I have made, no matter how small.

Instead of worrying about what the world owes me, I focus on what the world has paid me.

In return for hard work, I received the dividend of results. For my optimism, I got the ability to change my own universe through the power of thought and positive, well-timed action. In exchange for obeying the laws of attraction, I have more blessings in my life than I could have ever imagined.

We are not so much owed by the world, as we are indebted to its gifts, such as the ability to give. From the tiny seeds of intention we plant, we are paid continuously. Not only does the planted tree spout, it bears fruit and flowers that we can enjoy over and over - so long as we keep our roots strong, remaining grateful for both the rain and the sunshine.

10 Do’s Of Great Hair Care

May 12th, 2008

Hair care is science and an art, but most of us approach it in a very haphazard way. Here you’ll find 10 essential advice that will simplify your hair care routine!

If the amount of money consumers spend on hair care products annually is any indication, most people are concerned about the appearance of their hair and strive to attain beautiful, healthy and stylish locks. In fact, most will go to any lengths to achieve their desired look. From professional salon treatments to over-the-counter serums, hair care is a big business.

The only problem is that while many people are buying the right hair care products for their hair, they forget to follow basic hair care regimens that will guarantee the health and beauty of their tresses. Additionally, many are also causing needless damage to their hair by participating in unhealthy hair care behavior.

So, what should you do to make sure that your hair stays healthy, shiny and strong? Here are 10 essential “must dos” of great hair care.

Hair care dos

1. Use the right hair care products for your specific hair type. If you’re hair is damaged, dry or color treated, use hair care products formulated to repair this damage and add much-needed shine and resiliency. On the other hand, if your hair is oily, use a deep-cleansing shampoo and light conditioner to keep your hair looking its best. The right products should be at the base of your hair care routine.

2. Get a trim every 6 to 8 weeks as part of your regular hair care routine. Even if you are growing your hair longer, it is still vital to make a routine trim a major part of your hair care routine. Snipping ends before they split will keep your hair looking healthy and save you hair care headaches in the end.

3. Protect your hair with hair care products that contain sunscreen.

4. Shampoo your hair only when it is dirty. Contrary to popular belief, you do not need to shampoo your hair daily. Doing so can make your hair dry and hard to work with.

5. Turn to a professional for all of your hair care needs. Yes, kitchen beauticians and friends do not cost as much as putting your hair care needs in the hands of a qualified professional, but they often result in blunders that end up costing you more money than if you went to the salon in the first place.

6. Use professional conditioning hair coloring systems. There are many hair coloring systems on the market, and the ones you choose can have a great impact on your hair care costs. Simply put: choose a system that causes minimal damage and conditions hair as it colors. This will save you money when it comes to conditioning hair care products.

7. Stick with one chemical service. In order to keep your hair as healthy as it can be, ask your hair care professional to recommend only one chemical service: color or perm. By only using the service that is perfect for your particular style and needs, you will ensure that your hair stays healthier.

8. Add Texture. By adding texture to your style, through perm or cut, you can greatly reduce the time it takes to style and perform your daily hair care routine. And you will look sensational.

9. Choose hair color that compliments your style. With all of the professional coloring techniques available, this part of your hair care regimen has never been easier. From chunky highlights to soft color, you can greatly enhance your style with the right technique.

10. Comb your hair with a wide-toothed come when it is wet to prevent breakage. The only time you should use a brush during your hair care routine is when your hair is barely damp or dry.

In the end, hair care is a very individualized and personal thing. Feel free to add your own flair and style to your hair care routinePsychology Articles, but remember to include hair care principles that will benefit your hair and avoid those that damage it.

What is Botox and What’s the Use

April 17th, 2008

Botox is an injectable substance that is a medical grade form of the botulinum toxin, most often used to soften and relax forehead/scowl lines as well as crows feet around the eye area.

Botulin toxin or botox is the toxic compound produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It is an enzyme that breaks down one of the fusion proteins that allow neurons to release acetylcholine at a neuromuscular junction. By interfering with nerve impulses in this way, it causes paralysis of muscles in botulism. The toxin is a two-chain polypeptide with a 100 kDa heavy chain joined by a disulphide bond to a 50-kD light chain. It is possibly the most toxic substance known, with a lethal do

Botox is most commonly used to smooth out wrinkles but can be used to help in many other cases. It’s been found that botox injections can help children with cerebral palsy from agravating and suffering some other side effects. Muscle tension that often occurs with cerebral palsy has been seen to ameliorate while using botox. A side effect is a dry mouth, but in the case of neurological conditions, such as cerebral palsy, where excessive drooling is a problem, this is actually helpful.

It’s been found that BT, the botulinum toxin, injected into the prostate reduces the levels of prostate-specific antigen and the prostatic hyperplasia symptoms while being well tolerated. These results have been observed in a preliminary trial that was placebo controlled. The trial went great with no systemic adverse effects or any complications.

The botulinum toxin type A can be deadly, paralyzing muscles needed for breathing, but only very small doses are given in medical or cosmetic treatments.

Botox works by blocking the signal that nerves are trying to pass to the muscles.

Acne Solutions

April 9th, 2008

A great deal of money is spent by people trying to find acne solutions that work. Unfortunately, many never find the right acne solution, and their acne either clears up on it’s own, or they learn to live with it. You can, however, find an acne solution that will work for you, without spending hundreds or thousands of dollars looking for the cure, by following these simple steps.

1. Make sure that you are washing your face two or three times each day, with clean water and a pure soap, such as Ivory.

2. Try applying essential oils directly to the acne. Oils to try are Tea Tree Oil, Bergamot Oil, Clove Oil, Lavender Oil, and Rosewood Oil. If you have sensitive skin, you may need to dilute the oil with Grapeseed oil to avoid irritation. Apply the oil before going to bed, then wash it away, using pure soap and clean water, in the morning. Give it about a month to see if it is working. This is one of the least expensive acne solutions that has proven to be effective for many people.

3. If the essential oil doesn’t work for you, try a good over the counter product, such as ProActiv. It is expensive, but you will spend less money using a product that has been proven to work, than you will buying creams and acne solutions that do not work. Bypass the junk, and go with what has a better chance of working.

4. If ProActiv doesn’t work for you, visit an allergist to see if you have any food allergies. Often food allergies will cause acne, and the best acne solution in this case is to eliminate those foods from your diet completely. If a food allergy is causing the acne, not other acne solution should be needed.

5. If there are no food allergies, or eliminating foods did not work, it is time to see a dermatologist. The doctor may prescribe Accutane, which is also expensive. It is taken orally, and may cause side effects, but it has been proven to be quite beneficial in the treatment of acne.

6. If Accutane does not work, talk to your dermatologist about trying Retin-a. Retin-a is used to treat acne, acne scars, wrinkles, skin discolorations, and other scars and skin problems. It is very effective as an acne solution.

The key is to make sure that you give the acne treatments time to work. Give each step at least one month, and possibly more. Some acne treatments will actually make the acne appear to be worse before it starts clearing up. This is perfectly normal, and in most cases, even to be expected.

Don’t waste money on cheap acne treatments that don’t work. If it worked - it wouldn’t be cheap. The cheapest acne solution that has been proven to work is essential oils. Everything that really works after that is expensive, but well worth the price.

Best Celebrity Hair Styles for Your Face - Part 2 of 6

April 6th, 2008

What is your hair type and texture?

When you find a celebrity hair style that you really like, you must consider your hair texture and type. Even though you may have the same face shape as your favorite celebrity, that doesn’t mean that her hair style will work with your hair type. For example, some women cut layers into their hair only to find out later that they are unable to style the hair at all. It just falls flat, with no body. Hair texture encompasses the density, wave, movement and body of the hair. There are five basic categories of texture: Straight, Curly, Black, Fine, Chemically Treated and Coarse.

Straight Hair: This hair has no wave or curl. Straight hair typically has natural shine and body.

Curly Hair: This hair has a tighter S-shaped curl with lots of volume. Curly hair is high-maintenance and can appear dull-looking and frizzy. Help from leave-in conditioners and shine enhancers will help alleviate this problem.

Black Hair: This hair is usually dry, brittle and fine. Use of conditioning products and daily massage can gently promote health hair.

Fine Hair: This type of hair can look very lifeless soon after washing. Always use hair care products specially formulated for fine hair.

Chemically Treated: Many hair color processes can change the make up of your hair permanently. Always use shampoos/conditioners designed for colored hair. Also, check that the products contain sunscreen in them to protect your hair from damage caused by the sun.

Coarse Hair. This hair can look very wiry after shampooing. Use of leave-in conditioner to close and smooth the cuticle will help, along with regular deep-conditioning treatments.

To see what texture of hair you have, try threading one of your hairs through a sewing needle. If you have trouble threading it or the hair gets caught as you pull it through, then you have thicker hair such as curly or coarse. If the hair goes right through, then you probably have fine hair.

Hair type encompasses the condition of your scalp, the texture of your hair and how your hair reacts to the environment. There are four basic categories for hair type: Normal, Dry, Oily and Combination.

Normal: This type of hair is neither prone to oiliness or dryness.

Dry: This type of hair will look dull, lifeless and parched, even sometimes frizzy and straw-like.

Oily: This type of hair will look oily, dull and dirty along the whole hair shaft.

Combination: This type of hair will begin to show oiliness about 5-6 hours after washing, while the ends remain dry. This can be caused by the use overuse of conditioners and styling products or by humidity and pollution.

To see what type of hair you have, drop one of your hairs in a glass of water. If the hair floats, it is either oily or healthy. (Oil and water don’t mix, so oily hair will float)

If your hair sinks to the bottom, then your hair has absorbed water and is dry.

In short, your hair type and texture play a very important role in how your celebrity hair style looks. If you hair does not hold a curl, then the popular curly hair style today may not be for you unless you get a permanent. Lots of layers in the hair will require extra work and lots of styling products. Remember that celebrities don’t just wake up in the morning looking the way that you see them in magazines. Many have professional hair stylists that do their hair every day. You can tell that they get their hair done since many celebrities claim that their hair stylists are their best friends. Stay tuned for Part 3, What is your lifestyle?

Wonder Treatments - From Copper Peptides to TCA Skin Peels

April 5th, 2008

Beauty is skin deep. However, the amount of sheer patience and hardwork that goes into the maintenance of a clear and translucent skin is more than enough. Moreover, in these days of metrosexuality, it is no longer the women only, who are calling for wonder treatments. Men are equally, if not more, keen on having a perfect skin and a glowing face. Anti-wrinkle creams, facial peels, face washes and the wonder treatments of today are continuing on a slightly different version of yesterday. [Did you know that Cleopatra, the Egyptian, was said to have bathed in ass’s milk, to keep her skin radiant?]

Talking of wrinkles and scars- copper peptides are really wonder treatments for these type of skin blemishes. Wrinkles are characterized by incorrect deposition of collagen and imperfect skin cell layering, which is also seen in healed wounds, undoubtedly on a much larger scale. Copper peptides work wonder for these types of marks as they are formed of small fragments of proteins. Proteins are the building blocks of all living tissues and thus has a rejuvenating effect on damaged skin. Copper peptides are effective against various forms of skin irritation, mainly due to their anti-inflammatory effects.

Copper peptides are a promising skin treatment with a good safety profile. Their ability to improve the healing of various types of skin lesions is well established. It is likely that copper peptides may slow down the development of the signs of skin aging by limiting the consequences of daily wear and tear. Also, copper peptides may augment the results of the skin rejuvenation treatments based on controlled skin injury, such as laser resurfacing, dermabrasion and peels. There are also indications that copper peptides have the potential to improve wrinkles and skin texture on their own. However, more extensive and prolonged studies are required to definitively prove it. In addition, it appears that copper peptides may cause rare but significant skin damage in some cases of overuse or unusual sensitivity.

Any discussion on wonder treatments would remain incomplete, if one does not mention facial peels in general and TCA peels, especially. TCA Peel, which stands for Trichloroacetic Peel, used trichloroacetic acid to remove superficial blemishes such as post-acne scars as well as treat and cure current acne, correct pigment problems (melasma) and smooth out fine surface wrinkles. On some occasions, TCA Peels have even been used to remove and prevent the growth of pre-cancerous lesions. Yes, it has been clinically proven on various skin related cancers and similar conditions that can result in cancer. It is an intermediate peeling agent that is normally used in 10 to 50% concentrations, depending on the extent of peeling that the patient wishes to achieve. It is now even available for home use (please see the link below).

The wonder treatments do perform. However, do consult a dermatologist first as they can best evaluate your unique skin and determine the correct regimen for you.

Acne Treatment Scams Revealed

March 18th, 2008

Wouldn’t it be nice to have clear acne free skin and not have to worry about waking up to yet another bad skin day? Of course it would. And many low moral internet marketers know that’s what you want too - you’re easy money to them.

They know that they can sell you a useless product with the promise of smooth, clear skin and the guarantee that you can rid yourself of the psychological pain that acne causes . They want you to believe that their “latest breakthrough” or “miracle herb from the rainforests of South America will give you results beyond your wildest dreams - the sad truth is that it’s highly unlikely that you’ll get any results at all.

How do I know this? Because I’ve tried just about every product and guide out there, I need to tell you straight that 99% of the products available are completely useless and 99.9% of the people selling them are complete frauds. Of course, there are a few exceptions.

To cut to the chase, I contacted every internet site selling acne “cures” that I could and told them I was either interested in buying their business or acting as a distributor (obviously I can’t go into too much detail about what I actually said to them otherwise they’ll work out who I am). As soon as these people thought they were going to get a big deal out of this that would make them rich they were unbelievably willing to spill the beans on what they really thought about what they were selling. The results were shocking to say the least.

One owner boasted to me that he knew full well that his information product (a guide to acne treatment at home) was less than useless but that most customers were too stupid to go through the complicated procedure he had set up for them to receive a refund.

Another told me that there was nothing in the herbal formula that she sold that could in any way clear acne, but she knew that acne sufferers were “so desperate they’d buy anything”.

These people are laughing all the way to the bank with your money.

I don’t really want to leave you feeling so negative after reading this, the good news is that there are several acne treatment programs out there that really do work. It just takes a long time to figure out which ones they are.

There is one product in particular that stands out in my mind, when I approached the website owner (in the way I mentioned above) they really seemed to believe in what they were selling and that it could make a difference to their customers.

I think the lesson from all this is - buyer beware. Especially on the internet where there are many faceless companies fighting for control of our wallets and purses.

All the best in your search for clear skin.

Acne - A Commonly Ignored Affliction

March 12th, 2008

Acne is such a void topic with almost no other topic less likely to be discussed at parties and in general chat. This is not because it is rare or unknown. On the contrary acne is an amazingly common and dreaded skin infliction that most people just don’t want to know about.

Statistically it is suggested that around 85% of the 12-24 year old age group have acne. But acne is not just a teenagers’ problem. It is well known that a significant proportion of adults are also affected. This appears to be reinforced by statistics provided by the American Dermatologist Association that finds amongst other things that:

• 20% of all adults have active acne
• 60 million Americans have active acne
• 20 million Americans have acne badly enough to cause scars.

• Only 11% of acne sufferers seek help

It is astounding that despite acne being the most common skin disease in America, that the figures showed such a small percentage of acne sufferers will seek assistance despite the suggestion that the disease it fully treatable.

This is also quite sad when considering numerous other diseases where there is no stigma attached but treatment may not be so accessible or even possible.

From personal experience it is amazing as to how one member of my family has been almost completely ‘unblemished’, and another ends up with scarring from acne of extreme severity which required medication.

There are also a variety of myths in relation to causes of acne such as chocolate and coca cola being a cause for example however these two have been refuted by researchers. With this in mind I believe it is crucial that sufferers do their research and seek assistance possibly saving unnecessary lifestyle modifications or changes.

As each of us are individuals, so to it would appear should be each treatment. What works for one person may have a completely different result with another which is not dissimilar to many medical treatment or therapies.

However one thing is certain, the stigma attached to acne must be dumped and sufferers openly discuss the issue and seek help in relation to the problem. At worst, the amount of online literature about this topic is of immense proportion so if confronting the issue in person with a doctor is undesirable in the first instance, utilize this vast resource to gather information, analyze and commence a plan as to taking action to address the issue.

Teenagers are self conscious enough at anytime without living with an infliction that can be minimized or they could be totally devoid of. Perhaps this is another of the important “life” topics that could be added to schooling along with other crucial topics or life skills such as nutrition given obesity levels in developed nations.

Summary
Acne, whilst extremely prevalent, is treatable and sufferers should not just sit back believing they have no control. Do your research, consult a specialist and move forward instead of waiting for the problem to cease which may never occur.

New York City Laser Hair Removal

February 20th, 2008

We spend a lot of time waxing, cutting, shaving, plucking away hair from unwanted places like legs, upper lip, chin, arms, back, and other such areas, only to find it growing back a short time later. In New York City, laser hair removal has become a very popular cosmetic procedure for getting rid of unwanted hair. Just try out the safe and economic process of new york city laser hair removal.

In this method, a low-energy laser beam is used to remove unwanted hair. I can tell you for sure that unlike routine hair removal practices, this procedure offers long-lasting results. When the laser beam moves across the treatment area, the laser energy passes through the skin and is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicle. You may have to pay multiple visits to the laser center to achieve that long term desired result. The cost of the treatment varies from person to person and is generally dependent on the size of the area treated as well as complexity of the case. The entire process is relatively pain free but improper treatment can cause lesions, burns and skin discoloration and irritation. The result is the best if you are light skinned and have dark body hair. It must be kept in mind that lasers must be used very cautiously if you tan or have a darker skin tone.

New York city is perhaps the laser hair removal capital of the world. There are a host of centers offering new york city laser hair removal. Not only do you have the best specialists here, but you can also choose what kind of center you want to go to. Taking the decision regarding which center to visit is indeed difficult. For this you should talk to those persons who have undergone new york city laser hair removal. They will be the best to guide you and answer your questions. The internet is also a great resource in helping you to find out as well as decide which laser center in New York city will be the best one for you.

Several places offer new york city laser hair removal. There are even some centers which offer written warranties. If by chance you experience any re-growth of hair in the treated area within the specified guarantee period, you can receive additional laser treatments to the treated area absolutely free of charge.

So just walk in to any of these centers and get rid of all your hair from unwanted places.
