Dice Control: Myth or More?

October 15th, 2007

Upon first glance it may appear as a myth, but it is easy to see that dice control is more than that. Dice control is more than a myth because the end result of any die thrown is on the die before it is thrown. There are only six possibilities and no unknowns. The fact that any object thrown the same way at the same speed at the same place will behave the same can be applied to dice. Many people say that dice control is a myth because they can not do it. However these are the same people in the 50’s who said a baseball player could never pitch a ball over 90 miles an hour. The act of controlling the dice in order to achieve a desired result is much more than a myth.

Throwing any two standard dice there are 36 possible outcomes. A fact that no one can argue with is that the end result of any one throw is one of these 36 outcomes, which can be seen on the dice before you throw them. All a person needs to do is know which side of each of the dice will be the end result. Using dice control a shooter can greatly increase his chance of predicting which two numbers will be the final result. Due to the nature of the game of Craps, the dice controlling shooter does not have to be right all of the time, to make a substantial win.

As previously mentioned, any object thrown the same way at the same speed at the same place will behave the same. Given that fact it is very possible to control the throw of the dice. The problem that comes up is that a casino is not a perfect situation. The casinos try very hard to distract players, because they know that dice control requires complete focus and a certain “rhythm” to throw. If a shooter can block out all of the distractions that a casino tries to use, it would be easy to see that dice control is more than a myth.

Dice control does not require blind faith to see that it is more than a myth. In order to learn how to control dice, one must posses an open mind. If dice control is more than a myth your growing bankroll with be a sign. Remember, just because you can not do something doesn’t mean that it can not be done. Very few humans can pitch a baseball 90+ miles per hour, so always believe that the difficult or “impossible” is possible. That fact that baseball players can do the impossible surely means that it is possible to throw two little dice with control.

Given the facts that have been presented here, it is clear that dice control is much more than just a myth. There are many opinions on the issue. They range from the absurd to the outlandish. I encourage all readers to gain as much knowledge as possible before passing judgment on this most interesting topic.

Beauty Shop

September 30th, 2007

Beauty Shop tells the story of Gina (Queen Latifah) as she moves to Atlanta so her daughter can go to an exclusive music school. She finds a job as a stylist at a high end salon but after a confrontation with her boss leaves and opens her own beauty shop.

Beauty Shop doesn’t quite rise to the occasion as it repackages and regurgitates characters, themes and plots that we have seen before. It is one thing to tell a story that has previously been done yet bring something new to what may be an overdone but entertaining storyline and it is another to retell a story and not bring anything new to the table at all. Beauty Shop falls into the latter category and suffers greatly for it.

The main problem with Beauty Shop is that it is Barber Shop with women. From the plot twists to the characters inside the shop, it is the exact same movie as Barbershop except with Queen Latifah at the helm instead of Ice Cube. There is the funny, familial and penny pinching boss, Gina (Queen Latifah). There is the misguided, yet full of potential stylist in training, Darnelle (Keshia Knight-Pulliman). There’s the arrogant, know it all stylist who is a pain in everyone’s side, Chanel (Golden Brooks). There’s the novice stylist of a different race that can’t get any business, Lynn (Alicia Silverstone) and finally there’s the opposite sex stylist who is the only one of his kind in the salon, James (Bryce Wilson). Add to that the money problems, someone trying to take over the business and the possibility that the shop may have to close for good and you have the same movie, same story without any added flare. You even have the character that hawks their goods at the shop: in Barbershop it was a man selling bootleg CDs and DVDs and in Beauty Shop it is a woman selling catfish and monkey bread. The concept of being original must have never crossed the writer’s minds.

And once again I say, can we dispense with the gay stylists. That is a stereotype that can go to the stereotype graveyard never to be seen or heard of again…ever. Kevin Bacon, an actor I love does an absolutely horrible and I repeat horrible job playing Latifah’s gay and fascist boss. We can also dispense with “metrosexuals” the new overused and unfunny effeminate male stereotype that is going to appear in every movie where men are employed in what are typically considered to be women’s jobs. If so, I say please stop now before you make audiences suffer anymore then we already have at this new, unnecessary caricature. There was one of these characters in “Guess Who”, and one of Beauty Shop’s many subplots is trying to figure out if the only male stylist is gay, straight or a metrosexual which would be a cross between the two.

For positives, there were some laughs and the opportunity to see a shirtless Djimon Hounsou was almost worth my money, but overall Beauty Shop was unoriginal and a bore. Ultimately the question is — do you really want to spend your money on something you’ve already seen before. For me the answer is simple: No, I don’t.

Sunglasses

September 18th, 2007

I will wear sunglasses
so as to hide the tears which form in my eyes
for a man is not supposed to cry,
so they say,
and because of this:
my heart I have kept in a safe.

But I will wear sunglasses all the same
for I am emotional as poets come
as emotional as Thomas who found solace in a bottle
as emotional as Byron who went to Avalon without a drink.

For my feelings I carry with me, visible for you to see
like Ernst’s apple stuck to a forehead.

Glasses which will be taken off
when I go to bed at night,
lulled to sleep by the stars,
my nightmares forgotten.

And when tomorrow comes
again, to put them on.

Donald Trump You’re Fired!

September 6th, 2007

“I love beautiful women, and beautiful women love me. It has to
be both ways.” Donald Trump.

Despite being the son of a multi-millionaire developer, Donald
Trump did not inherit anything, making his own fortune and
rescuing his father’s company - he is truly the turnaround king.

His wealth, connection with beautiful women and extravagant
nature has made him one of the most recognizable men in America
and surely one of the most envied. (Apparently 98% of American’s
know who he is).

An amateur womanizer Trump owns the Miss Universe, Miss Teen USA
and Miss USA beauty Pageants, he has been married twice but his
philandering has put an end to his marriages.

Most everyone has seen his television show the Apprentice.

First of all your king has the utmost respect for Donald Trump.
However, I just cannot for the life of me understand how or why
he could possibly marry the first pretty face that smiles at
him. I have been mistaken for Donald Trump myself when I throw
my hair back in that distinguishable Donald Trump hairstyle.

Why would any man with that much success want to throw a cog
into the perfect game. Ok move your girlfriend into an
apartment, BUT MARRY HER! There is simply no excuse. The only
thing Elvis Preston King has to say to Donald trump is …YOU’RE
FIRED!

Slot machine basics

August 29th, 2007

The first slot machine came into being in 1895. Since then, they have witnessed not much of evolution. While early slot machines contained three spinning wheels with a symbol, one of them being the jackpot figure, in modern machines the number of reels has been increased to five. The symbols vary from diamonds, spades, clubs, hearts to fruits. Similarly, while the earlier slot machines had only one row, the present ones have two to three horizontal rows, but only one acts as the pay off. Again, classical model had only one pay line, but today the machine can have as many as fifteen pay lines. The player can decide which one he chooses.

Almost all the slot machines are relatively similar. The one characteristic they differ on is the denomination. Some machines accept a quarter, while others can have five dollars as the acceptable denomination, depending on the intensity of the gambler.

An added attraction some machines today is the ‘double or nothing option’. This slot provides the winner with an option to double his earnings or loose it all. The first lesson in winning is to know the machine well. The denomination the machine accepts, the degree of risk involved etc are a few key points that the gambler should be aware of. Reading the instructions on the machine carefully helps this cause.

Gambling is now a legalized affair. Efforts are being made to legalize slot machines outside the casinos as well. Slot machines can be commonly found in casinos, Indian Reservations, and race tracks. Personal ownership of the slot machine is strictly regulated. One has to be cautious depending on the State laws. A common clause in all state laws is that the machine should either be an antique or a vintage. A machine manufactured twenty five years ago is usually considered to be an antique. Antique slot machines can be found with dealers, at trade shows, at auctions- these being the common sources.

Playing a slot machine is a game of chance. It is a gamble. The outcome of the game is completely random or is it so? The randomness of a machine can be regulated by the casino, to some extent, through computer software known as random number generators. While some machines promise frequent pay offs other are difficult to play with. An accepted and obvious fact is that the slot machines favor the casino.

A good winning strategy can be to play for longer durations on a single machine. Though the initial losses are high, the winning amount more than compensates for it.
With gambling being legalized, more and more casinos are springing up. This has also created more job opportunities. On such job would be that of a slot attendant. This person handles customer complaints, resets the machine after every jackpot, repairs the machines and ensures compliance to safety rules. Though this job is quite stable it is low paid.

Slot machines are a good source of revenue for the sate. It is not only recreational activity but can also be regulated easily

Two Week Free Trial Not a Good Introductory Offer for Audio Books Right Now

August 25th, 2007

I have discussed the similarities of audio book renters to
Netflix numerous times in my reviews. Similarities include
“unlimited rentals”, an online prioritizing queue to speed up
expediting of customer shipments, no due dates and free
shipping. All these features helped make Netflix a successful
business in a short period of time. This business strategy and
my belief that the Regular CD format and MP3-format are a long
way away from disappearing amidst the ever increasing amount of
data downloadable to iPods, cell phones, car stereos, etc. works
well for audio books too.

Larger and thoroughly catagorized audio book sections at book
stores are being created to encompass the increasing demand as
people continue to find the CD format more accessible and
convenient than before, largely due to most new cars
automatically equipped with CD players. The high price of new
audio books has helped make the audio book renters’ monthly
subscriptions a Godsend to many commuters. People trying to
update their business acumen, escape from the pressures of work
into a master storyteller’s drama or lighten the day’s load with
something humorous or inspirational.

The similarity between the door-to-door DVD renters and audio
book renters that needs some adjustment is the introductory
offer. For Netflix a two week free trial gives the customer just
enough time to decide if they’d rather run down the street to
video store or wait at home for the DVDs to come in the mail. As
suspicious as a two week free trial on a monthly subscription
plan may seem it works for Netflix because people don’t need an
introduction to renting DVDs. The same is not true for audio
books because most people have not yet seen the access to the
vast wealth of literature an audio book subscription presents.

For many commutors driving two or more hours a day listening to
audio books is increasingly becoming a necessity and a way of
life. But still most people can’t yet wrap their mind around how
driving to work can be enjoyable. Instead of a monetary
inticement, focus on how listening to books can give people an
opportunity to enjoy literature they wouldn’t otherwise have
time to read.

First sell the product, then the subscription. Show the
prospective subscriber that listening to books can broaden their
imagination. Show how this unique medium allows the listener to
experience the author’s story with their own imagination while
guided by a narrator’s gift to unlock the emotional and
sensational elements of a book’s characters.

People first need to know that with the help of audio books they
can realize the adage “The book was better than the movie”.

Plasma TVs at high altitudes

August 10th, 2007

An interesting factor to consider when planning your purchase of
a new plasma television is altitude. Plasma TVs use millions of
tiny, gas-filled chambers to create a picture. When you move to
higher altitudes, the constant pressure in the chambers and the
now lower ambient air pressure create a buzzing sound
reminiscent of a halogen beer sign. This buzz is a combined
result of the increased power consumption necessary to overcome
the pressure differential, and the increase in fan use because
the high power consumption heats the unit. This change in noise
is really the only difference between operating a plasma
television at sea level and one operating at extreme (above
6,000 ft) altitudes.

This noise increase provides a hint as to the more serious
reason to avoid using a plasma television: lifespan. The life of
a plasma screen is dependent on how hard it works through the
course of its life. Operating these televisions at altitudes
above what they were designed for puts an excess strain on their
various components. Using a plasma TV above 6,000 ft. is more
likely to annoy you with additional noise than anything else,
but it’s a bad choice in the long run.

This pressure change is why airplanes chose to use LCD screens
over plasma screens on flights that offer video entertainment.
LCDs use crystals instead of gas filled chambers, and are thus
indifferent to altitude changes. That said, there are
manufacturers who have designed plasma televisions for use at
altitudes up to 9,000 ft. You’ll pay for this upgraded design,
so you must decide if the price difference is worth it. So,
check the elevation information for your city to determine if
this should concern you, because it’s not always obvious. Denver
is just under the 6,000 ft. window for operating a regular
plasma screen. You may see a slight difference in the lifespan
of the unit here when compared to an identical television
located closer to sea level, but this is likely to be very
small. If you’re not sure what your local elevation is, or if
you’re close, but still below the 6,000 ft. recommended ceiling,
do some firsthand research. Go to an electronics store and test
out the various plasma TVs on display. Listen closely for a
buzzing or humming. You may find that your local air pressure is
low enough to affect the performance of a plasma unit.

So you’ve done your research and planning, and you’re ready to
buy your plasma television? Now make sure you check your local
conditions and, if necessary, invest in a high altitude plasma
unit.
