The Benefits of Using Conference Calling for the Psychotherapist

July 16th, 2007

Conference calling can save you time and money. For those who
are psychotherapists, time is extremely important. Not only do
you need the time to talk to your patience, but you need to
confer with other doctors as well. Conference calling can do
many things for you. You can find these benefits to make your
job simpler, allowing you more time to make it profitable and
beneficial to the patients. All the way around, conference
calling is a great product to have. Here are some of its
benefits to the psychotherapist.

First of all, conference calling can lock you into a
conversation with many people. This means that you can plug in
several associates or even a group of patients for a group
session. Assuming that you use it in this way, you are saving
yourself quite a bit of time and expense, but you are also
getting a one on one experience to all of those individuals
included.

Consider the cost savings. If you need to have even just one
secretary sitting into a meeting, you are paying too much. With
conference calling, you save money because you can have the call
recorded.

If you need to use group therapy with your patients, consider
using conference calling. Of course, many individuals will
prefer that they can listen into a conversation and not have to
have others see who they actually are. This can help people to
open up, to divulge what they need to and to begin to heal with
your direction. Because everyone has the ability to communicate
with everyone else, they may just feel more comfortable doing so
without having to face the person directly.

Using Conference Calling

Using conference calling in your profession can be quite easy.
You can talk to a group of people from the same area, from the
same state or even across the world. This makes it easy to get a
group of doctors together to talk about an issue. It helps to
bring together people from across the country for the same cause.
And, it is time and money saving to you by cutting your costs
considerably.

Are you concerned that it will be too expensive? Concerned with
it being too hard to use? If so, you do not need to worry. All
the individual calling into the call will need to do is call a
specific number and enter a code that you provide to them. It is
that easy. They can then talk to you, talk to others on the call
or simply listen. Virtually anyone from around the world can be
included. Lastly, conference calling for the psychotherapist is
quite affordably priced. For even those on a limited budget, it
can be easy to afford. It is much less expensive than having to
travel from place to place or paying fees for a meeting room.
Conference calling is a great tool for any psychotherapist to use
in their daily practice!

Managed Teleconferences

July 13th, 2007

Teleconferencing is a process of virtual communication. In terms of the equipment used to establish a connection it can be of different kinds: audio-, video- or web-conferencing. Besides, teleconferences can be divided into managed and reservationless ones in terms of a third-party assistance. Reservationless teleconferences are made on-the-fly, while managed teleconferences are conducted with the operator’s assistance and should be pre-booked.

Managed teleconferences It is when a company plans to hold a high-profile and more complicated teleconference with a large number of participants that it resorts to operator-assisted services. Providers usually have a team of professionals, who are ready to help you organise the conference and customise it to suit your needs. You should contact the provider beforehand to decide on the best format for your conference, which depends on the number of participants, the number of languages used, etc.

The provider gives you a dial-in number, which you send out to the invitees. You also inform the prospective attendees about the date and the time of the conference. Or you can submit a list of participants to the operator with specified timing, and the latter will do that piece of work for you. Usually, no registration fee, local area or access codes are required. Everybody just dials the dial-in number on the exact time of the conference and enters it. Or you can dial the invitees out. It’s useful to ask attendees to identify themselves, when they join in.

You can create a participant access code for the invitees to gain entry to your private teleconference and eliminate the possibility of unwanted intrusion.

Some operators of managed conferences offer 3 types of conferences, including standard operator-assisted, event operator-assisted and auto-event ones. Standard operator-assisted is designed to accommodate up to 50 lines. Event conference is aimed at connecting over 50 lines. Support staff provides pre-call planning and advice, proactive monitoring of the conference, follow-up and assessment. Auto-event conferences are similar to the event-managed with addition of a PIN code sent to each participant. At the designated time, a participant dials in and is put through to the conference without any need to talk with the operator.

After everybody is in place, you can give the conference any direction you like. Among the most popular methods to employ are Yes/No polling, sub-conferencing, etc.

You can also negotiate a recording (CD or a transcript) of the teleconference for later review (can be especially useful for those who missed the event).

What is good about managed conferencing is that you don’t have to purchase expensive network, equipment and hire support staff. There are differences in payment schemes. Some charge per minute (British VideoCentric charges 12p per minute of audio-conferencing and 25p per minute of video-conferencing), or per minute per participant, while others offering high-usage customers a comprehensive hassle-free plans go for a monthly fee.

Managed conferences are a wise and easy choice, as they take off a load of concerns from you and offer professional handling of the event. Let them entertain you.

The Business Advantages of Conference Calling Using the Internet

July 5th, 2007

The Internet provides a practical venue for the conference call. With its low cost and ability to accomodate many listeners it is now practical to open a conference call to almost anyone (at least to listen). Many firms now do. For example, a recent article in the Wall Street Journal related how IOMEGA does this as an efficient way to control the irresponsible babble on Internet bulletin boards. People posting idle chatter now attract accurate responces from others who have heard the actual story on a conference call. As a result, the irresponsible postings are controlled.
Naturally, investment professionals complain that this allows the novice to access raw information that needs interpretation by someone more knowledgable - namely such a professional. However, companies like the ability to make one public statement, and then be free from goverment limitations on how investment information must be released. And individual investors like it too, as access to this information gets them access to information that once only slowly reached the average investor. Even Chairman Levitt of the SEC sides with the theory of greater access for the masses. According to an article in the 24 May 1999 issue of the Wall Street Journal, the NASDAQ has even funded a pilot program to pay for public access to conference calls. Firms such as DELL and Cosco are early participants.

Using the Internet has many advantages besides the instantaneous international release that results. It is possible to save the audio files so that the call can be accessed later at a more convenient time. Plus it would be possible to edit out meaningless portions to provide sort of a “Cliff Notes” of each conference. Naturally, there are some limitations. If everyone could ask a question, real brawls could result as the conferences became uncontrolled. So most Internet systems limit who can ask a question.
An outstanding advantage for the average investor is to witness directly a firm’s management in action. While the information might be the same, an investor gains confidence in management that presents a virtuoso performane over one that is defensive, hesitant, and obfuscative. The details aside, the speed of responce and other items that don’t get incorporated in an analyst’s report can add a lot to one’s understanding. Previously, a small investor’s only such access might have been at a company’s annual meeting.
Several firms have opened to provide investment-related conference-call services in one form or another over the Internet. Some require membership and user fees, but the trend seems to be toward company funding of the low cost service, and free or very low cost access by the public. According to the WSJ article mentioned above, firms now providing some for of access include: Vcall (Philadelphia), broadcast.com (Dallas), c-call.com (Street Fusion, (San Fransisco), and CCBN.com (Boston). Expect that more and more firms will offer the public Internet conference call. Encourage firms you are interested in to do so. This form of communication is yet another form of ultimate corporate democracy.

Marketing Genius: The CD business card.

Marketing Genius: The CD business card.

What is a CD Business card?

CD
business card replication is a relatively new concept.

CD Business Cards are business card shaped CD-ROM’s that can
play in any standard computer CD drive. Usually jam packed full
of multimedia information about your business…anything from a
full interactive web site to a catalog to a power point
presentation with music, video, whatever you can imagine. These
cd business cards give you the power to illustrate much more
than a standard printed business card can.

With cd business cards, you can include any audio, video
(digital or VHS), PowerPoint presentations, brochures, sales
literature and catalogs. You can even have “hot links” to your
website and unlimited e-mail addresses to multiple departments,
such as sales, customer service, technical support, etc.

Your entire product catalog can be put on a CD for a fraction of
the cost of standard printed paper catalogs.

They actually come in many shapes and sizes, including an
“hockey rink” shape with rounded corners, a credit card size and
shape, a 3″ round mini, and custom shaped cds (imagine a cd die
cut to your logo’s shape).

The real advantage to cd business cards is that besides being a
cool marketing product in itself, they are small sized, and are
easily stored in a wallet or shirt pocket, just like a standard
printed business card.

Technology is now available to print on the disc in many ways.
The standard is silk screening. But you can also upgrade to
offset printing or digital printing at quality up to 600 dpi.

In addition, Using a unique new all-digital imaging process to
print labels for any format of optical disc media, variable data
can be printed on each individual disc, making serialization and
personalization possible, regardless of the number produced.

Serialization can be used to control who can access data, along
with accountability for how it is stored. This trackability
helps prevent problems of piracy, theft, loss of production, and
loss of sales, by making positive authenticity and ownership
easy to establish.

Personalization can be used to provide consumers with
individualized promotional items and even serve as mailing
labels. Photos of agents and/or products provide big impact as
business cards, invitations, catalogs and other marketing
materials, even on a small marketing budget.

Some potential uses for cd business cards…

For a salesman/executive…

Photos of your products or services can be printed in full color
on the CD business card with full contact information. Within
the content of the card, full catalogs can be included with
product information and links to your website. On each CD label,
individual client’s name and information can be printed, making
each card uniquely personalized.

For real estate company…

Houses can be shown in multimedia virtual tours. Individual
representative’s data can be printed on the face of the cd,
specifically addressed to the prospect.

For an insurance company…

Client’s individual name and policy data can be printed on the
CD label. Complete policy, actuarial information, and FAQs can
be included or a full marketing presentation in multimedia can
make an immediate impact.

For an automobile company…

Each dealership’s customer database can be leveraged by simply
sending a CD business card to each customer with the latest
leasing /product information. Each CD label can be individually
personalized and printed with each customer’s information,
salesman’s name and contact info, and type of vehicle that
interests the customer.

For a fortune 500 company…

Reports, whether quarterly or annual can be issued to each
stockholder on CD with individual name and number of shares
printed on the CD face. Prospect uses could be distributed with
current performance information printed on each CD label.

CD
Business cards seem to be the hottest marketing item in the
business sector these days, and its popularity is growing. They
are only limited by your imagination.

HDMI, DVI , Component Video Cables and Interconnects Explained

June 19th, 2007

Background: As the HDTV market continues to heat up,
consumers are in need of being educated on the latest technology
in order to make intelligent purchasing decisions. There are a
plethora of articles explaining the technical pros and cons of
the 3 dominant HDTV display technologies namely: LCD, Plasma,
and DLP. However, one all- important, but overlooked feature in
selecting a HDTV set is the type of HD video connection. The
video connections available for HDTV are: component video, DVI
(digital video interface) and HDMI (high definition multi-media
interface). We will discuss briefly the pros and cons of each.

Component video cable commonly referred to as R, G, B
(Red, Green, Blue) actually consists of 3 separate cables
because it distributes the 3 primary color components to the
display. All colors can be generated from weighted distribution
of each Red, Green and Blue color components. Of the 3 HD
connection technologies available today, analog component video
is the most mature technology.

-Advantage: Analog component video cable is mature and
cost effective.

-Disadvantage: component video cables are analog! All
HDTV sets are inherently digital therefore extra digital to
analog and analog to digital conversion is necessary in order to
process the video. This extra conversion can introduce video
artifacts. Since all HDTV’s are digital, it only makes sense to
use an all- digital connection such as DVI or HDMI.

DVI(digital video interface) as the name suggests is an
all-digital video connection. Unlike analog component cables the
DVI interface transports the original digitized R,G, B video
signals from the HD source to the HD display. Since it all
digital, no artifacts or degradation will be incurred. You will
get EXACTLY the picture that the video source supplies with no
degradation. DVI connection is often found on HDTV as well as PC
video cards.

-Advantage: DVI is ALL-digital, so there is no picture
degradation from source to display.

-Disadvantage: Digitizing R, G, B requires extremely high
bandwidth. The aggregate data rate of the digital R, G, B
signals is 1.65 Gbps! The high bandwidth means that cable
quality is important and also the link distance is limited.
Typical link budget for a DVI is ~ 15 ft.

HDMI (high definition multi-media interface) is the
latest state of art audio and video connection. Technically,
HDMI is identical to DVI with 3 notable differences. 1) HDMI is
a much smaller connector (it looks like an U.S.B. connector), 2)
HDMI utilizes copy protection called HDCP (high definition copy
protection) and 3) HDMI carries multi channel digital audio.
HDMI, like DVI, is ALL-digital therefore picture quality is
“perfect” from source to display.

-Advantage: HDMI is a single digital video and Audio
connection. Only 1 single cable is needed to transport both
audio and video! This significantly reduces cable clutter behind
your theater setup. HDMI is all-digital therefore there is no
picture degradation from source to display.

-Disadvantage: Like DVI, the link distance is limited and
a high quality cable is required because of the inherently high
bandwidth required to transport digital R, G, B. video.

You may view pictures of DVI and HDMI connections at : http://www.octavainc.com/faq.htm

Conclusion: As the HDTV market continues to mature,
consumers will need to be educated on the HDTV video connections
available. We have outlined briefly the main features along with
the pros and cons of each connection solution, so the consumer
can make intelligent choices in selecting the HDTV video
connections.

Conferencing Solutions: Navigating The Maze

June 14th, 2007

Businesses, both large and small, utilize a conferencing solution of some nature to conduct business at one time or another. Today there are several types of conferencing solutions an organization may choose from. The choice to use conferencing is clear. What’s not so clear is which one best fits the needs of your organization.

There are currently 3 basic types of conferencing solutions:

–Audio Conferencing Solutions

–Video Conferencing Solutions

–Web Conferencing Solutions

To make things even more interesting, it is also possible to mix and match amongst the three solutions. Let’s take a look at each one in turn and then see how they can be combined to extend their utility.

1. Audio Conferencing –- audio conferencing solutions have been around the longest. They range from simple conference calling features on most PBX systems that bridge 3 phone lines to sophisticated outsourced services. In addition to the conferencing feature on a PBX is the very low cost 2-party conference call using speakerphones with the participants on each end sitting around a conference table.

You no doubt have probably participated in one of these conference calls on more than one occasion. These types of conference calls can be very effective, but they also have some major limitations. They are just an ordinary telephone call between two parties. It can often be difficult to hear all of the participants if they don’t speak up or are too far from a microphone. Long distance charges may be incurred by one of the parties unless an 800 number is available.

A hosted audio conferencing solution provides an added level of convenience and professionalism. They allow the bridging of multiple parties via telephone lines. These services my be either operator-assisted or what is known as “reservationless” where the client has an account and schedules the call themselves. An operator-assisted conference call has some advantages such as transcription and translation services, but the trend is to save cost and opt for reservationless conference calling services.

2. Video Conferencing -– video conferencing solutions are the next best thing to being there. However, they require specialized systems and support and can be difficult to setup and use. On the other hand, when compared to the costs and lost productivity associated with travel they can be a very cost effective alternative.

This is especially true where geographically dispersed divisions or partners must collaborate on a regular basis. In this case the ability to see and speak to one another in real time using a video conferencing solution is ideal. Video conferencing systems also provide rich media and conferencing tools to further enhance the conferencing experience.

3. Web Conferencing -– Web conferencing solutions are at their most powerful when computer desktop applications need to be shared. Web conferences are great for demonstrating software products to customers or sharing spreadsheets and other applications amongst the participants.

Web conferences also typically have an audio component, which is either a separate audio conference or integrated into the web conferencing system via an audio conferencing service or over the Web using a digital voice solution such as VoIP.

Unlike video conferencing solutions, Web conferencing solutions use a familiar desktop interface and are easy to setup and use. They provide meeting tools such as white boarding and document sharing. The best-known and most popular provider of Web conferencing services is WebEx.

Choosing among the various conferencing solutions comes down to what your organization hopes to accomplish with the conferencing solution. In many cases a simple audio conferencing solution is sufficient.

If you need to demonstrate a software product or require a more interactive conference, then a Web conferencing solution is probably what you need. For extended, mission-critical projects that require regular interfacing with a remote office, then video conferencing solutions are definitely worth considering.

The important point to bear in mind is that whatever conferencing solution you choose, it is a tool used to meet the business objectives of your organization. Towards that end, don’t choose a tool that’s more than you need, which is wasteful or is inadequate just to save on cost.

Richard R. Rojas researches and writes on trends and technologies within the conference calling industry. You can read more about business conference calls and conferencing solutions at http://www.onlyconferencecalls.com

Online DVD Renting Trend

June 5th, 2007

Many surveys show that online DVD rental is the new trend in
online business. Many companies offer the possibility of setting
up your own DVD rental website and thus earn additional money or
become your own employer.

By making a monthly or yearly payment, these companies give you
the possibility to advertise DVD movies on your website, then
take rental orders and pass those orders to them, who are in
charge of the DVD distribution. This way, you earn money by
acting merely as a “gateway” between the customer and the actual
rental service provider. It sounds good, but… How do those
companies make money? Well, it’s as easy as doing some math: you
pay them a monthly fee, you charge your customers a monthly fee.
That’s right, you don’t charge per rented DVD, as “real world”
rental business. This scheme has some evident advantages:

Your supplier company gets paid on a regular basis and at the
same time it gets publicity for their service. Your customers
may rent unlimited DVD for a fixed monthly payment, usually
lower than what they would pay per DVD on a classic store.
Besides, they have the comfort of DVDs being delivered to their
home door.

You get the convenience of getting paid per customer and not per
rented DVD, thus you do not have to face the common “inactive
customer” scenario, where you have a large customer database but
a much smaller income.

You also make your service available within a very big area
from the very moment you set up your web site, as opposed to
setting up a physical rental store, which will take a long time
to become famous beyond your neighborhood.

Another advantage is that you don’t have to spend the huge
amount of money associated with setting up a “real world” store.

Knowing this, it is not a surprise to see this online DVD rental
business growing more and more each day.

How to Effectively Use Training Videos

May 30th, 2007

There is a new fad that has been gaining in popularity recently.
This fad is of the use of training videos for various subjects.
The use of training videos has been widely used for various
things such as: in the work place, for dog training, educational
training, work out or exercise training, sports training, and
much more. But in order for these training videos to serve any
kind of purpose, it is important to effectively use them. If you
are one of those people that struggle with this, let this be
your guide on how to effectively use training videos.

Whatever your reasons are for using training videos, there are
some things you should follow. First of all, it is not good to
watch training videos when you are half asleep or tired. If you
do this, you will not pay much attention to it and thus you will
learn nothing. An example: an employer is having all of his
employees watch a safety video before the lunch hour. The
employees are hungry and tired, so they are not paying much
attention. The solution: the employer should show the video when
the employees are fed and more awake. Also, if you or others
find it hard to pay attention and start to lose focus, get up
and take a breather before continuing with the training video.

Next, if the training video is teaching you how to do something
or how to use something, then practice it while you watch the
video. You can then pause and rewind as necessary. An example
can be if you are learning how to better your golf swing.
Practice as you are watching. Have your golf clubs right there
with you. Another example is if you are watching training videos
on how to train your dog. If the training video shows you how to
make your dog sit, then try this as you watch the video. It is
much easier to practice what you are taught if you do it while
you are being taught. Lastly, take notes if you are unable to
rewind or re-watch the training videos. This way you will have
something to refer back to about what you were just taught.

Remember to keep all of these tips in mind in order to
effectively use training videos. Always know that you are doing
yourself no good if you are not paying any attention to the
training videos. Be aware that if you don’t practice what you
are seeing on the training video, it will not set in and you may
not learn anything. With the right frame of mind, you should be
able to gain more knowledge from the training videos you watch.
