What Not to Do when Airport Parking

August 5th, 2008

Airport parking is a fairly prominent feature of today’s airports. So much so, that one might even go as far as to say that it was crucial aspect of air travel, and indeed a booming business. But as with most aspects of life in general, there are always those people that get it wrong. Either they’re the general public simply going about it in an incorrect fashion, there’s also times when it can go wrong with companies. For example, don’t do what one of the lead characters in that popular movie comedy Airplane did! He got the taxi to park (with the meter running) right out in front of the airport main entrance. He then also proceeded to board the plane and take off with it. I fear that authorities have yet to designate right outside the main entrance as a Long Stay airport car park. It’s also not a wise idea to leave your car in the possession of individuals who whilst claiming they’ll put your car safely into storage, will actually be out and about in it, most likely joyriding. For cars suppose to be securely stored where being driven by the airport parking staff at Gatwick airport in England. Some of the cars were supposedly only in storage for a couple of days before they were removed by the staff and driven at speeds of up to 100mph, just for fun. One member of the staff even apparently fled the scene of an accident, after crashing one of the cars he was supposed to be looking after. These unfortunate circumstances were brought to the attention of an airport parking security watchdog after customers complained of speeding fines and damage to their car that occurred in the period they were out of the country and on holiday.

Your abdominal workout

July 29th, 2008

Another good workout to build your abdominal strength is the vertical leg crunch. This exercise has shown to be a proven method to building the abdominal muscles. This exercise is performed correctly by lying on your back and extending your legs up in the air while slightly bending the knees. Place your hands behind your head; be sure to keep your chin up and not to pull on your neck. To contract your abdominal muscles you lift your upper body off the floor until your shoulder blades are not touching the floor. Keep your legs in that same position and lift your upper body in rhythm. Start these exercises in a pattern of five and increase with your daily exercise to your preference.

These are only a few abdominal workout exercises you can choose from to use or you may want to try all of them. With all exercise program be sure to research and use them correctly. If used correctly they all will be effective and you will see results in no time. Be sure to check with your doctor to ensure your physical ability to perform these exercises. Abs exercises and workouts will not only make you stronger, you will feel better too.

What do you need to know about senior’s health

July 3rd, 2008

As one progresses in age, he retreats in health or fitness. Though senior citizens are counseled to stay fit, it is barely the case like. Numerous natural transformations occur in the body as it moves towards fragility. For instance, the bones and muscles lose their potential reducing the stamina of the body, the kidneys and other internal organs start malfunctioning and the vigor of the skin recedes.

But the fact is that health is wealth at every stage of life. It is more crucial when one enters into the senior citizens category because there are few caretakers in those times. So, the elderly should concentrate on fitness as much as possible. There are quite a few ways in which the aged can enjoy a good physical and mental health.

1. Health Insurance- it is the first and foremost requirement of every senior citizen. A medical insurance is the greatest friend in the time of need. It can provide you and your family the financial aid in worst times of your life.
But one should be pretty careful in purchasing a health care policy. The plan that facilitates maximum benefits should be taken up.

2. Diet and Exercise- the diet of individual varies with the age along with other factors. But at an older age, a person should be extra careful in matters of eating. This is because, the antibodies or the immunity system receives a setback in this age and one becomes more prone to all sorts of illnesses. The diet therefore should be thriving in vitamins, minerals, proteins and carbohydrates. Fats should be strictly avoided as they make one susceptible to numerous diseases particularly heart problems. There must be an extra intake of calcium to support the diluting bones.
But a rich diet is not enough. Some exercises should be a part of daily routine in this age. Individuals need to be extra cautious about movements of their limbs for the natural strength and the disease fighting ability of the body keeps on retiring in older ages.

3. Those who have a family history of ailments like prostrate and colon cancer, the diseases that most likely hit men in fifties and above, should get regular medical check ups done. They must follow the doctor’s advice and all the injunctions and prohibitions.

4. Women are more likely to be affected by breast cancer. They also are vulnerable to other diseases due to menopause. Though the course of destiny can never be averted yet prevention should never be ignored. There are some medicines that women should take after menopause in order to minimize the risk factor.

5. Alzheimer’s disease and Dementia are even threatening for women. The former is a fall in certain cognitive brain functions. It is a type of dementia. Dementia impedes an individual’s intellectual functioning and capability to work. These diseases mostly affect women in sixties and above that. Such women gradually become forgetful and incompetent in doing skilful work.
As soon as some of these symptoms are evident, doctor should be consulted without delay. Drugs at early stage might stop the situation from worsening.

6. Avoid stress. Stress is as harmful as any other contagious disease. Don’t stoop to drugs so called stress busters. Consult a psychiatrist if conditions run out of control.

Easter Decorating Ideas for Your Fireplace

May 10th, 2008

Sure you decorate your fireplace and mantel for the winter
holidays, but don’t forget this important focal point in your
room as Spring approaches. Here are some nearly-instant ideas
for springtime and Easter fireplace decorating:

Daffodils in crystal or glass vases on each end of your mantel
bespeak the coming of Spring. Tie a wired chiffon ribbon in a
soft spring hue in a bow around each vase for a nice touch.

March a line of fluffy chicks across your mantel. Five or more
chicks, whether stuffed toys, porcelain hens, or craft store
chickens, make a cute display.

And speaking of stuffed toys, now is a great time to find those
old stuffed bunnies and ducks and turn them into mantel
ornaments. Add Easter grass, and scatter decorated eggs along
the mantel to keep them company.

Tie wired gingham-checked ribbons into bows, and attach them to
the edge of your mantel. Let the ends of each bow hang down
various lengths from one to three feet. At the end of each
ribbon, open a plastic egg, tape the ribbon’s end inside the
egg, and force the egg shut. This creates a set of eggs dangling
at different heights.

Bring out your glass, crystal, white, and pastel candle holders
of different heights for your mantel. Select a trio of
springtime colors such as lavender, pink and eggshell or aqua,
pale green, and soft yellow. Use pastel candles in some of the
candle holders. In others, perch decorated Easter eggs (real,
plastic, wooden, or glass).

The ideas above are great for your fireplace’s mantel, but
what’s a terrific way to decorate your fireplace itself?
Fireplace candelabra are the perfect accessories. And using
candles in the shape of decorated Easter eggs in your fireplace
candelabra is a super-simple, but visually dramatic way to
decorate for the season. (Just don’t be too surprised if the
Easter Bunny replaces one of the candle-eggs with a chocolate
one!)

1-800 I’m calling Heaven to talk to Mother

May 4th, 2008

How do we face a day set aside for Mothers when the woman who brought us into this world has been taken from this world. Ask those who have already been down this road and they will tell you that it is a very lonely time.
For those of you that will be glowing with smiles, shopping for your Mother and taking her out to your favorite restaurant there will be those of us whose heart will be aching as we remember the last moment spent with our Mothers.

Don’t keep these emotions bottled up inside you, perhaps write a special article or poem and dedicate to your Mothers memory, share memories of your special times spent with your Mother with family and friends, pull out old photographs or look at a video tape of your Mother. Every year on holidays I light a candle in her memory. Go out and buy yourself a rose bush and plant it in your flower bed. Each year as summer brings back the birth of roses your mother’s memory will rebloom in the beauty of those roses.

My mother always loved the roses. Her and my father would grow them in the garden and all our neighbors would remark on the beauty of those roses. So during my Mother’s illness I often took her roses clipped from the rose bush in my yard to the nursing home. Every winter I am sadden by the loss of my mother, but as winter took her the first bloom of those roses brings her home.

So this Mother Day I will delight in the beauty of roses.

This Mothers Day allow yourself to feel the love and joy of your children. You are not betraying your Mother by feeling happiness. Your Mother would want you to be happy on this day and remember her laughter. Grief is normal and there is no easy way to deal with it. Close your eyes and remember your child hood and the happy times spent with Mom. Remember the talks and the wisdom she shared, even remember the fights when you didn’t quite see eye to eye.

Your Mother is forever with you, she is in the part of your mind where she will never die. This Mothers Day rejoice and smile. Your Mother gave you life and with that life she taught you many things but one thing she may not have taught you was how to say goodbye when her time would come to leave this earth. Death it is just the passage through a door. It is from one room until the next, from this life into eternal life. Right there through the clouds is where your Mother is, she is in the beauty of roses that bloom.

Remember your Mother this Mother Day, mourn in her death but rejoice in her rebirth.

My Mother I will never be able to write anything that matches her love for me but may my love for her be found within the wisdom of these words that I share with all of you.

1-800 I’m calling Heaven operator please patch through a call to our Mothers and wish them a Happy Mothers Day.

Scrapbook Photographs — How A Picture Can Be Worth A Thousand Words

April 28th, 2008

For many people, photos are at the heart of their scrapbooks –
and for a very good reason. We all treasure photgraphs of
friends and loved ones, and many of us carry some with us
wherever we go in a wallet or locket or keep photos on our desk
at work. And if disaster were to strike and you had to evacuate
your house, many people say they would save their photo albums
before any other possessions!

So most scrapbooks will contain photographs. Even the most
disinterested reader of your scrapbook will look at them. A
picture really is worth a thousand words. Therefore, it is
important to choose photographs that are of good quality and
clearly illustrate your scrapbook theme.

Any photograph can be used in a scrapbook. Even instant
photographs can be used in scrapbooking. Just be careful that
the chemicals within the photograph do not spill out on the rest
of your scrapbook. Digital pictures can easily be printed right
onto lignin-free and acid -free paper.

Always bear in mind that scrapbooking is permanent. For this
reason, it is probably better to use copies of your only picture
of Great Aunt Betsy rather than risk ruining the original
photograph forever. So just scan the picture on your computer
scanner and print the image on lignin free and acid free paper.

Everybody loves looking at photos of family, friends and special
places. That’s why they have such a special place in any
scrapbook. It can be a lot of fun to use photos in imaginative
layouts and for abstract effects — don’t feel confined just to
mounting your photos as you would in a traditional photo album.

You can find inspiration for new scrapbooking ideas from
magazines and visits to art museums. Just keep your eyes open
and let your imagination run free!

Safe, Healing, All Natural Xylitol

April 18th, 2008

Xylitol is a natural sweetener and thus does not fall into the same category as saccharine, the active ingredient in Sweet’n Low, or aspartame, the active ingredient in Equal and NutraSweet. Saccharine and aspartame are artificial sweeteners that are made in a laboratory. They are synthetic chemicals that have been linked to many life-threatening illnesses.

Xylitol is a natural sweetener that comes from the earth, from nature. It can be extracted from fruit, berries, vegetables, birch wood, corn, straw, seed hulls, and nutshells. The amount of Xylitol in these natural products is so minute that it would be difficult or impossible to consume enough to get enough xylitol to benefit our teeth and gums. Special Xylitol products can provide a mouth with enough xylitol to promote dental health.

Of course, sucrose is a natural sweetener as well. Our two main sources of sucrose are sugar cane and beets. But xylitol is a much better natural sweetener because it promotes dental health.

Xylitol supports remineralization of the teeth. Where cavities have already started, xylitol restores tooth enamel. Another benefit of Xylitol is that it does not promote tooth decay like sugar does.

Xylitol dissolves quicker than sucrose, which is one reason why it does not create plaque. Xylitol is more effective at preventing cavities than sorbitol and mannitol, two synthetic sweeteners.

Xylitol has been used for more than 25 years in Finland, Hungary, and other countries to prevent dental cavities! Various studies over this time period have proven that sugar alcohols including xylitol reduce the amount of cavities in children and adults. The best news is that Xylitol is more effective than any other sugar alcohol at preventing cavities.

In Finland 10 to 11 year old children were studied, all of whom brushed and flossed, were instructed in their diet, had many check-ups, and used fluorides. Many people who were aware of the program speculated that there was not much that could increase the effectiveness of the study because the program was so intensive. Everyone was shocked when it was found that the children who chewed xylitol gum every day increased protection against cavities by 50%! Interestingly, the permanent teeth were those most protected by Xylitol.

Study in Belize- 1,277 school age children chewed gum several times a day. The children were divided into three categories- children chewing gum sweetened by sucrose, children chewing xylitol sweetened gum, and children chewing sorbitol sweetened gum. Remember, xylitol and sorbitol sweeteners are both sugar alcohols.

The study lasted for 40 months with children chewing gum everyday, including weekends and holidays. The children who chewed xylitol gum had 73% fewer cavities! Children who chewed gum sweetened by sorbitol had a reduction in cavities, but by only 26%. Children chewing sucrose sweetened gum had an increase of cavities of 120%.

In Estonia a study evaluated the use of xylitol gum and candy in 10 year old school children. After 3 years of chewing xylitol gum there was a 53.5% reduction in cavities when compared to the control group who chewed no gum. Sucking on xylitol candy led to a 33% to 59% reduction in cavities.

Chewing xylitol gum is more helpful to dental health than not chewing it!

In Costa Rica a study compared use of xylitol-sweetened toothpaste with a control toothpaste, both of which contained fluoride. After 3 years of brushing twice a day, the xylitol group had 10.5%-12.3% less cavities.

It is not impossible to stop cavities.

Many people believe that when a cavity forms the only thing that will stop it is a dentist’s drill. This is not true! Xylitol can stop cavities from worsening and can eventually heal cavities by creating an environment where the tooth actually restores its enamel coating.

Xylitol Quick Facts: The Many Benefits
• All Natural: Is extracted from natural products. NOT created in a lab.
• Tastes sweet
• No aftertaste
• Dissolves much quicker than sucrose
• Is a sugar alcohol and is safe for diabetics
• Xylitol promotes remineralization: Can actually allow your tooth to heal its self. Xylitol restores tooth enamel where cavities have already started.
• Contains only 40% of the calories of sucrose sugar

Climate Change: A Universal Nightmare

April 16th, 2008

By Christine Pinella

The world’s leading Climate Change scientist warned the EU and its international partners today to rethink their targets for decreasing carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, claiming that we have massively underestimated the problem.

James Hansen is the head of the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies in New York. He has called for a reduction in CO2 limits.

Hansen says the EU target of 550 parts per million of CO2-the most severe in the world-needs to be reduced to at least 350ppm. The cut is needed if “humanity wishes to preserve a planet similar to that on which civilisation developed”. A final version of the paper that Hansen co-authored with eight other scientists was posted today in the Archive website. No theoretical models of the Earth were used in this study. Instead, the researchers looked at the history of the Earth’s sensitivity to climate which they said gave a more accurate picture.

Studied samples from the ocean can track CO2 levels back millions of years. When the world began to glaciate in the Ice Age 35 million years ago the concentration of CO2 was 450ppm.

“If you leave us at 450ppm for long enough it will probably melt all the ice - that’s a sea rise of 75 metres. What we have found is that the target we have all been aiming for is a disaster - a guaranteed disaster” says Hansen.

Although previous estimates claimed that at 550ppm the world would warm to 3C, it has now been proven that the estimate would be doubled at 6C.

Hansen is a prominent figure in climate change science. He was one of the first to bring the extreme issue to Congress in the 1980’s.

The fundamental reason for his revised data was what he called “slow feedback” mechanisms which are only now becoming fully understood. They amplify the rise in temperature caused by increasing the concentration of greenhouse gasses. Ice and snow reflect sunlight and when they melt the barren ground absorbs heat.

Satellite technology from the past three years has shown that Greenland and Antarctica both are losing mass at alarming rates.

The belief that the shrinking of ice sheets would take thousands of years is now being thought “implausible” by researchers like Hansen. “If we follow business as usual I can’t see how west Antarctica could survive a century. We are talking about a sea-level rise of at least a couple of metres this century”.

The new target of 350ppm may lead some to believe the bar is set unrealistically high. With the US administration struggling to keep up with international efforts, climate campaigners are having a hard time setting the goal at 450ppm.

Hansen said his findings were not a call for despair. The good news is that reserves of fossil fuels have been exaggerated and another source of energy will have to be put in place. Other measures include a moratorium on coal power stations which could reduce emissions to below 400ppm.
