Glowing Green Pigs

December 13th, 2008

Scientists have discovered that by injecting fetal pig embryos with phosphorescent dyes the adult pigs will have green skin and glow in the dark. All I can about this is: Well, it’s about time! I can’t count the number of times I needed to find my pig in the middle of the night and I had to struggle to find my glasses and turn on a light. This will sure be a huge time saver for me, I can tell you, now that I can get a pig that will shine as bright as day.

My question for the scientists is whether they bothered to consult the Lord God Almighty before they did this. Forgive me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t Old Jehovah still own the patent for creating new life? I don’t know, maybe it expired. It’s a good thing that they were able to do this before they did another wasteful project like curing cancer. Cancer’s been around forever, but this is the first time we’ve ever had glow in the dark pork and I would rather have that over cancer any darn day. Wouldn’t you?

There is a real purpose for the scientists to make these unique porcines. And that purpose is to … find their pigs in the dark, I guess. Okay, that’s not the reason they gave. They said it was so that they could track medicines that could be used in human beings because pigs are often used for animal research since they are so close to human beings. I know you ladies will claim that this is only true for the half of the human race, but it really is all of us.

So, that’s why the scientists say they did it, but let’s face fact here: The real reason is that it’s just plain fun. Wouldn’t you want a pet that glowed in the dark? I sure would. And we all know that pigs make wonderful pets. Look at George Clooney. He has a Vietnamese pot bellied pig and he just loves the thing. Sure they get a might heavy as they get older, but most of us do and I would personally love a huge fat pet that made me feel skinny by comparison.

Then let’s take this a step further. Say that for some reason you do get tired of your huge green glowing friend? Glowing pork chops. Mmm, mmm. That would be sort of like a candle light meal, only you wouldn’t be eating your meal by candle light but by the light of the meat itself. Imagine how much more romantic that would be.

Home Decorating and Style Guide

December 10th, 2008

To benefit from a home spruce or make over you need to set a good financial budget that will help set the tone for how much can be spend in each area of the home. If you prefer to do only a few rooms at a time, choose rooms that are used frequently like a lounge or kitchen.

Next, scan home decorating magazines for ideas of what style you would like your home to follow. Take clippings of the look you want to achieve then take time to figure out what will work best with your room of choice. Do you prefer bold, bright colors or deep, rich fabrics and colors? Think about the colors that your family would enjoy, as they have to live in this home too. Spread the color theme throughout the home for a collective look. Now, select a print that can range from floral, textures, stripes, patterns and plaids. Use the chosen fabric to match with all others, this can be your signature print. Have fun and get really creative with home decorating, as this is one of the most rewarding things you can do.

Make a room appear inviting by visually dividing your room up with rugs, chairs and plants. Make a specific object the main focus of the room such as chair groupings then work around this to make further area groupings. If you want to make a room appear smaller apply warm and soft colors to the room so the room can blend together. To make a room appear bigger you need to apply cool colors to the walls but not dark or warm. Use a small number of prints in the room. Mirrors and glass tabletops create a look of a larger room.

Apply long curtains; striped, vertical wallpaper to your wall with beautiful long window treatments for a look of elegance. Cushy, soft carpet and dark, polished wood will create a beautiful clean and smooth look. Create a mirror image that adds balance to the room with two chairs or end tables places together.

Apply heavy carpet and strong, textures wallpaper to this room. Make the rooms appear inviting with square shaped furnishings and lined wallpaper. Finally create an informal balance in the room by using chairs and end pieces that aren’t the same shape.

Preparation for your walls in a very valid step to obtaining the best surface to apply your wallpaper too. The walls need to be clean and evenly smooth. If your walls have been wallpapered previously you need to remove old wallpaper if it is peeling and not in good condition. Remove the paper by grabbing and pulling the paper off the wall. For previously painted walls you need to smooth the walls removing all scrapes and bumps by sanding or other techniques. Cracks need to be filled in with filler and then primed before the paper is sized up. Glossy surfaces should be washed carefully then smoothed. On a new and unpainted surface, the walls need to be covered with primer or a sealer. Paint surfaces including ceilings and baseboards before the wallpaper is applied. For extra security and in case wallpaper gets damaged in future, extra wallpaper should be brought.

Take measurements of the heights of the room in several different places from the baseboard to ceiling. This is always helpful as the heights may be different in some places and take the highest height. Then add 4 inches to this height, which is ideal for trimming the walls. Use this measurement to cut the wallpaper. Make sure the pattern is checked at the ceiling before the wallpaper is cut. Mark strip where the baseboard and ceiling meet. Apply to clean and smooth surface. Number the strips with T for top on the back. Then all strips can be number accordingly. Continue by cutting one strip at a time after the first two strips have been cut.

Decorating Roll Up Bamboo Shades

December 10th, 2008

Plastic or real bamboo roll up shades can be decorated with a designed waterproof shower curtain in front so when you roll it down for your Jacuzzi or other relaxation area it will be most pleasant to your eyes, and also serves as a privacy shade. The most popular are done in tropical print to add to a special area of relaxation. To attach it use hooks that you would use to hang the bamboo shade up with. Then attach it to the front and use the ropes on the sides to weave the shower curtain onto it. Everyone loves a view, so choose a curtain most pleasant to your eyes. Tired of that scene! Change it as many times as you like!

This simple addition will amaze you and your friends, they’ll all want to know where you came up with such a good idea. Remember you can change the scene as often as you would like. You can use the cloth type curtain or the waterproof type if it’s for an outside area such as a hot tub or pool area. This project is really that easy and makes a big difference in the ambiance within an area. Give it a try and you can keep playing around with the different looks and locations. Go to my site and e-mail me to let me know how you used your shades to decorate an area.

The Many Dimensions of the World of Candles

December 8th, 2008

Candles have been around for many, many years, but it was
not too long ago that candles were just a means of getting some
light in a room when the power went out, and they were a
necessity for such emergencies. Nowadays, the role of candles
has changed. Some are beautiful works of art which it seems a
shame to light, others are a custom scented candle lit and used
for relaxation purposes, with their perfume permeating the air.
Candles are used for decorating rooms, too. The choice is yours,
and you have a wide array of colours and shapes to choose
from.

Nothing says relaxation and romance like a candle lit room. It
seems to make the rest of the world disappear from sight, so you
see only that which is in the candle’s light. This is a good way
to forget the worries of the day, and is an inexpensive way of
doing so too. Give it a try one evening when you feel stressed
and feel the tension disappear in a puff of smoke as you light
your candles.

Candles are available for purchase in a variety of places, from
basic emergency candles in the local hardware stores, to wide
selections in the local dollar store, to beautiful artistic
creations in home decor stores. There are candles for every
occasion too, for Christmas, Valentine’s Day, etc., and for
people with a variety of interests. Some candles have flowers in
them as decoration, others are decorated with shells, or
imitation fish or … there is a lot of choice out there.

Along with the huge variety of candles, and the ability to make
your own custom scented candle, comes an equally large variety
of candle holders. To make the burning of candles as safe as
possible, they need to be in a safe holder, or on a plate or in
a tin, but even so, there are candle holders that appeal to all
sorts of different tastes. There are wall candle holders as well
as candelabras, and numerous glass containers of various shapes
and colours that, provided the candles are inserted properly and
the glass placed on a flat surface, will be safe for you to
burn.

Another advantage of candles, is that you can easily make them
yourself, decorating them, colouring them, and adding essential
oils to make a custom scented candle to help set a certain mood.
Candle making is a good project for a family and a way of making
inexpensive gifts at any time of the year and for any occasion.
You can also make candle gift baskets with the theme, or colour
scheme of your choice.

You can vary your candles too by using soy instead of paraffin
wax, or bees wax for more environmentally friendly candles, or
you can use gel for candles. This is available in many different
colours and shades, and is very effective. Of course you can use
different shaped containers for the wax, tins or jars and you
can decorate them as you see fit. Or you can make floating
candles, using a wide base for the candle to help it float.

The choices for candles are many, but there are advantages to a
custom scented candle. You can make it the shape and colour of
your choice, and with the scent of your choice, or you an use
essential oils to turn it into an aromatherapy candle. Make
your choice and enjoy!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year.

December 7th, 2008

With the Christmas season fast upon us, it is time to start decorating our homes in the festive spirit. Many families use the same decorations year after year. Others go all out and try to change their design style with every passing season. As the holidays tend to be a time when people do a lot of entertaining in their homes, why not consider adding something extra to your holiday décor?

In years past, we have approached our holiday decorations with a certain theme in mind. One year, we decorated our home to look like Santa’s workshop. Another time, we dressed our living room like a life-sized nativity scene. Last year was my favorite, by far! We transformed our home into a beach complete with sand and palm trees, and had Christmas in Hawaii. The opportunities are endless. If you are planning to have guests over during this holiday season, consider trying something new.

This year we are decorating our home in a winter wonderland theme. The idea is to transform our living room into….you guessed it….a winter wonderland. We are planning to use a lot of blues, whites, and silver. This will be great fun for the kids and me, as we get to spend an afternoon making paper snowflakes. You remember those don’t you? You know the ones we all used to make in elementary school, where you fold up a round piece of paper and take little snippets out of it with scissors to make unique snowflake patterns. So much fun! We will also use lots of those silver icicles, and snowmen of various shapes and sizes.

Decorating your home really helps get your family and friends into the Christmas spirit. We usually invite our extended families over to help. This gives all the children an opportunity to share in what has become a wonderful family tradition. It also gives the adults a chance to enjoy some good company and maybe even some spiced-up egg nog! Later in the day we will likely all gather around the television and watch our favorite Christmas movie. We like to watch “A Christmas Story” every year as a family. This year, I want a Red Rider BB gun. On second thought, I’ll probably shoot my eye out!

Hazards of Extreme Camping

December 6th, 2008

Hazards of Extreme Camping
By J. D. Adams
Seeking direction as a youth, I bought a compass and wandered into the savage heart of the wilderness. Oregon’s history came alive as I retraced pioneer trails and skied cross-country to skyline camps. Now, grizzled and trout revering, I offer this to show that extreme camping is so much more than surviving the crux of desolation in wet shoes.
Many campers have succumbed to their own camping equipment. Mummy bags were named for their tendency to shift around on the victim during the night, so you wake up facing an ominously shroud-like interior. Only by struggling absurdly with the sleeping bag can one return to the world of the living. Often during the struggle, everything in the tent containing Velcro will attach itself around the victim, creating a monstrous appearance. The flailing around will eventually roll the tent over, impaling the occupants on camping sundries and covering them with loose oatmeal. The modified mummy bag with a fuller cut is more comfortable and less likely to incite claustrophobic reactions.
Tents can function as rain collection devices, drawing moisture into the seams and through the fabric by a process still a mystery to camping scientists. Condensation and leakage collaborate to float the occupant on an inland sea, or upon rising, the victim is met by gallons of super-cooled water holding in the tent fly such that rebirth and amphibious regression are not unlikely. The stakes are high in the tent game, where experience with a good basic design like the freestanding dome tent will ensure dry and comfortable slumber. Before setting up your tent, inspect the lay of the ground for where water may pool up, and look overhead for precarious snags and branches.
The priming of gas stoves typically produces a fireball that is great for trimming those bushy eyebrows, also giving a hard outdoorsy look to the face. Working the stove is always great fun, a bit like being an astronaut and firing the afterburners. Some people get into character, shouting terms like “throttle up!” and “more power!” as they operate the pump and valves to avoid the dreaded “flameout”! Overcooking is the result, like your mother’s pork chops. Periodic cleaning of the stove hardware is necessary for easy starting.
Backpacks have come a long way from the L-shaped wooden frame and attached rucksack. The principle is still the same, to explore the limits of human endurance like Lewis and Clark on a bad day. The inner frame pack is more streamlined, allowing gazelle-like movement through the wilderness. Skiing and climbing is easier with a pack that is closer to your center of gravity. The exterior frame pack is the most comfortable for normal hiking conditions. Regardless of the type of pack, choose a model with wide, firm padding on the waist and shoulder straps.
Prior to mastering the telemark and snowplow turns, the novice skier will tend to hurtle out of control across the unsuspecting landscape; their approach marked by a cloud of forest debris and the raucous cries of tormented wildlife. Elk and bear stampede fearfully. Cross-country skiing with a full pack combines the grace of drunkenness with the feel of a military exercise. Once mastered, expeditions can be launched into the high country, where an altered state will settle in from oxygen deprivation, and annoying tunes may run through the head. Often giddiness will persist well into the later stages of hypothermia that can only be cured by fishing.

Flooring Considerations

December 1st, 2008

There are numerous factors which need to be thought about when deciding what type of flooring to get fitted. Getting new flooring installed in your home can breathe new life into it and can be a great way to improve your living environment. It may not be as expensive as you think either.

An important factor when choosing flooring is what the role of that room is. Flooring which makes sense for the dining room may not be suitable for the bathroom or kitchen for example. Some of the more widely used types of flooring are carpet, vinyl, wood, and laminate.

Laminate flooring can be a great substitute for wooden flooring if you are looking for a wood effect floor for a fraction of the price. Laminate flooring is made from a sheet of MDF with a wood-effect plastic surface glued to it. The downside of laminate flooring is that whilst it is scratch resistant once it is damaged it is extremely difficult to repair. Apart from that it can still be a perfect choice for a kitchen, where the plastic coating provides an easy to clean surface. On the other hand a solid wood flooring would not be a good idea in a bathroom, or in fact any room which is likely to get very humid and wet. Some woods are more vulnerable to the wet than others.

If you are looking to fit a wooden floor, it’s important you have a suitable surface to fit it on. An ideal surface would be flat, and dry. There are options however to resolve uneven flooring problems, such as laying ply throughout, or employing an underlay to create a ‘floating floor’.

More often than not laminate flooring is sold as a product you can assemble without help which is another useful way of keeping costs to a minimum. Solid wood flooring requires a higher degree of DIY competence, so it can sometimes be advisable to get solid wooden floors fitted professionally which can add a considerable cost.

Something many people do not realise when they measure their room to work out how much flooring they will need - is that it is important to include a 10mm gap around the edge of the room for the wooden flooring to expand and contract.

As an integral part of any interior design strategy, it is vital to choose the correct flooring. Whilst wooden or laminate floors can be ideal - often for a more chic minimalist look; carpet can be a better option if you are trying to achieve a more traditional home feel. The important thing is you take into account the various factors you need to consider before ordering new flooring.

Terry The Sick Kunt

November 29th, 2008

There once was a boy named Terry. He was a nice fella but he had a few issues. One of his biggest issues was that he always tried to be a sick kunt. He used to be like this because he thought he needed to be seen by others in a particular way. This was especially common around the company of girls. Here’s an example of one of his lines to a male friend: Get me a drink bitch!

Now this may sound like normal behaviour between joking friends but I assure you this is different. You see, it is never done when others are not around to witness it. Only around "new friends" or people that don’t know him well will this behaviour be "switched on". Terry may think that if he acts in this way others will think, "This guy is so cool, he talks to his mates as if they are trash. He must be a sick kunt." Sadly, the reality is that people just see Terry as a sad ass homo that needs help. They may even feel a bit sorry for him.

So what’s the moral to this story you ask? Always be yourself, not a science fiction movie character, Snoop Dogg or anyone else for that matter. If that’s not enough for people then fuk ‘em. It’s about gaining respect the proper way - With honesty and integrity. It may take you longer but it will last a lifetime.
